Kinda the point. It wasn't his play or missing a practice other than how it relates to wanting more $ that caused this. He likely won't lose $ and play somewhere this year. I don't like it when guys renege on deals either but it's college ball and there's plenty of underhanded dealings/recruiting going on..
Yeah, and Tennessee isn’t hiding that the asking for more $$ is the reasoning for why he’s gone is kinda the point

Not sure how you claim that is Tennessee “saving face”

And I doubt Nico gets more than the $2.5 mil he woulda got this year. But we shall see

Because it was reported that they cut him due to missing practice.

"Iamaleava missed meetings and practice on Friday, which was the driver of this decision."

Please don't spin this one into something it's not. If the report is wrong about the given reason, that's on them, not me.

The kid is absolutely wrong to do this. Doesn't change what was reported or the politics involved.

Tennessee is doing the right thing here but it wasn't because he missed a practice. They just happen to choose a nice rah rah reason instead of a $ one.

Lol. He missed practice because he was skipping it due to his “holdout.” After ghosting everyone and also having his dipshit Dad trying to act as some super-incognito agent, they had enough. Just stop already.

Hard to say. If Nico was showing up for practice and keeping it behind the scenes, maybe Tennessee gives him a pay bump.

Reality is, we don’t know. But, it certainly seems plausible that him not showing up to practice/spring ball was the straw that broke the camels back to where they could be legitimately saying that him missing practice is why he’s no longer a Vol

They may have been negotiating and then Nico no showed and the Vols just said, you know what…forget it, enough is enough

Pretty much but if the straw was $ related, it wasn't about the straw.

Lol im not sure what's even being argued here. They cut the cord with Nico because he wanted more money and then didn't show up to practice. Both of those are very much interconnected and led to cutting ties
Some can’t figure that out apparently.

Like TL said, it’s no coincidence because they aren’t hiding that’s the reason they are parting ways.

The university agreed to an amount with Nico to play here when he was a recruit. There are no true contracts, however.

Nico thought he could play hardball and had the leverage. Tennessee said…nope, our offer was the offer we agreed to and nothing more

Now, Nico finds himself on the outside looking for a team that can come up with that kinda $$ on short notice that also has a major need at QB…right at spring ball time when most teams have already made those decisions.

Nico not only cost himself $$ in this situation, but credibility as well. Whomstever encouraged him to do this is truly a moron and does not actually have Nico’s best interests in mind
Agreed, and now for 2 weeks being a fellow Tennessee resident I am with the university on this one. You see the potential with Nico but he had a long ways to go, when college kids start reneging on nil deals it sets a bad precedent if you as the university start renegotiating. If his agent or whoever convinced him this was a wise move they are idiots.

This is a lot of crying over nothing. Colleges are collectively making billions on these kids and this NIL money isnt even from the college directly but from their alumni, donors and boosters. Man the **** up and deal with the new reality.

As for Nico, he should have pulled this stunt at the end of last season so he had time to find a new deal. If his agent didnt already have alternatives lined up then he is a moron.

Reneging on an agreement and leaving your team in a lurch? Yeah, what’s to be unhappy about fans?

Don't think a kid should decide his future on what makes fans happy.

UNC Basketball has suffered greatly during the NIL. Hell our highest recruit in years entered the transfer portal after his freshmen year last week. I wont cry about it because that is his right. UNC needs to adapt or die.

I don't think you're seeing people say that he doesn't have the right to do this. I think you're seeing people upset about the timing of this.

Nico Iamaleava is well within his right, under these rules, to transfer and look for a new deal. Just as Tennessee is well within their right to him to go kick rocks. The timing of this leaves a lot to be desired though.

Yeah, not sure why Remy is pretending that anyone is mad at Nico for exercising his right to go elsewhere

The NCAA and schools agreed to a spring transfer portal which he took advantage of. The whole point of a spring transfer portal is to give players a chance to transfer after spring practice if the opportunities at their current schools are not to their liking. So the timing is perfectly normal and dictated by the NCAA. He is using it as intended although technically he cant enter the portal officially until Wednesday.

I guess you missed the endless debates and criticism over the past few weeks about how shitty the timing is and how it needs to be changed.
