It kind of has to be Jose Bautista for now. But I think Granderson is making a hell of a charge.

Interesting. I think UZR is overstated by FanGraphs, but I don't think you can really say that Ellsbury is as good as Bautista offensively. *shrug*

He is. If he keeps up his current pace, my money's on him. Bautista has had a heck of a year, though. Props to him.

I wish I could access the Baseball-Reference leaderboards but they make me pay money. I don't like how the UZR really skews fWAR. I think because Bautista can man 3B and RF though, he actually has a bit of utility value too.

Plus he's a monster with the bat this year.

It should be either Bautista or Gonzalez. Both have been very good this year.

It is clearly Verlander. If the Sox would win the central it would be Paulie

But since the Sox won't and the voters are clueless on what MVP means it'll be AGon

I wouldn't be upset if Verlander won. He's had a great season.

There's no concrete definition for "valuable" in the MVP voting which is why there's always room for debate and also some weird choices through the years.

MVP is basically the best hitter. I don't necessarily agree with that, but that's how it is. It's very hard to win the MVP award as a pitcher. That's why one of the two guys in the east that are beasting it up will win.

I'd just give Verlander the Cy Young and let him have that, give a hitter the MVP.

The meaning behind the MVP Award has been skewed by a lot of outsiders. Like many said, the best hitter will get it many years, but what you have to do is look at who is the most "valuable" to his team. Where would the team be without said player. Going by that, it's Verlander, hands down. Without him, the Tigers are likely in 3rd place and not in the division race.
