Over Cap by 4 million?

Seabrook is the year after next. IF they sign him to a similar contract as Keith, Career ending, they can front load it just like Keith, while keeping the cap hit down. He is already making just over 3 mil. Another 1-1.5 mil per year is not going to kill the team.

Niemi and Hjarlmarsson will be resigned this year.
The Hawks are not in as dire shape as everyone from "other" sources/teams/fans seem to make them out to be. The Core is extremely strong, and the depth is there to replace MOST players that will be moving on.

Bob---

Versteeg, Sopel, Campbell and Huet are all on the trading block. Expect Huet to be dumped to the minors.- Bob MacKenzie

If the Hawks were able to to the above you would clear about 18 mil. While losing Campbell would suck big time, Duncan is probably ready to take over for him at this point. Don't anyone make a mistake about it Brian Campbell was a HUGE part of this Cup run and without him we probably don't get out of the first round. Shame his contract just sucks ass.

Fanof19 says it perfectly. In the Salary cap ERA teams do and will not remain the same. Having breakfast with Bowman last year he was very firm on who was staying and how to maintain the core. I'm pretty confident we'll make a run at the Cup for the next few years with this core and will have fun reading those idiots that are jealous saying we'll be depleted.
DT and his staff set this team up with depth for a few years, and all scooter has to do is dump bodies for future picks and he can set the team up even longer. people get so wrapped up in the numbers that they fail to understand the entire scenario. YOUR TEAM WAS BUILT FOR DEPTH. teams that want to win cups are going to have to bump up to the cap, but if they have a strong farm and trade bodies for picks, they will be fine. when scooter does this, you will all hail him as a genius. remember you heard it here first how he gets around the perceived problem.

I completely agree. They are not in as dire straights as many are pegging them to be. I also agree this team will compete for the Cup for many years to come.

Seabrook---3

Keith----5

Hjarlmarsson----3

Toews----5

Kane-----5

Hossa-----5

Sharp-----4

Bolland-----4

Brouwer----3

Buff--------3

Niemi---2.5

42.5 MIL....

That's one hell of a core if you ask me. More so than ANY other NHL team

First off, I am still relishing this moment and frankly, not thinking about our player/ cap situation. I have faith and shall not even concern myself with this until at least the convention.

I will say this, it is going to be an interesting season in Rockford! All of you should plan on being here for at least a game.

In the meantime................

WE WON THE CUP!

It will be interesting Chris just where the Hogs end up. They are going to lose a couple of key players that will be in Chicago most likely.

But hey, You'll get to watch HUET!!!

At this time there is one person reporting that Kane and Toews have attained their max bonus amounts- James Mirtle. Any link other than the Globe and Mail article refers back to Mirtle.

It's odd that all Chicago news papers and other outlets like TSN have confirmed the Toews Conn Smythe bonus through Stan Bowman but not a peep on any other bonus.
Another thing people keep leaving out as these are ALL players who just won the Stanley Cup. Other than HUET the talent and EXPERIENCE will be coveted by other teams. Meaning they won't strong arm the Hawks rather than bid against other competing teams.

The Hawks are not in as tight position as people are making them out to be. MANY teams will want players, other than HUET of course. I don't see anyone taking him but Rockford.
I think sending Huet to Rockford is something that almost has to be done.

Obviously, the main objective is to clear cap space without becoming weaker in the process. Sending Huet to Rockford doesn't weaken the Hawks.

Dealing Sharp or Buff would imo.

But my Niemi paraphenalia has substantially gone up in value!

Thinking I may need to start insuring some of my stuff.

Absolutely. Imagine the playoff run without either one. Sharp has not gotten nearly enough credit for his stellar effort.

My feelings exactly on Sharp.

I don't see how you move him and get anyone who could play as consistently as he did.

I think it's funny how you read the articles but think most of those guys are just writing based on the trend of writing about the cup champs but not actually crunching the numbers before writing the same article everybody else is writing.

Do you think RK you can get Seabrook for 3 mil though? I was thinking he's gonna run us closer to 4-4.5

Yeah I didn't factor in moving Sopel, but he could probably be moved to save some coin as well. I think we def put on some heavy miles on his odometer this spring.

For next year Seabrook is making 3 million. He will probably be 4-4.5 after that.

The projection RK listed is for next season only.

I understand how Campbell might be wanted by some teams with money to spend. And while it's obvious how much room would be made by dealing him, how much would it weaken the defense from an overall standpoint if he leaves? That would be my main concern.

Not a chance. He's already making 3 mil right now. I think he'll get a 1-1.5 mil raise but his contract will be front loaded like Keith. You can afford that with the core I put above.

I gave him 3 because he's here one more year at three. He is not UFA until NEXT year. Meaning they will have to negotiate with his agent before July 1st 2011.

The core above was this years numbers.

I agree 100% about what Campbell brings to the team, but at some point Duncan can and will take over in the possession area. If you can keep Campbell it will cost at least Buff and maybe Sharp. Sharp is huge when you factor in the Depth we still don't have at Center. Toews, Bolland, Sharp are key because depth at C is HUGE.

Again Campbell is a big reason we just had a Parade IMHO.

Since when has your opinion ever been humble?

Hopefully Lalonde is going to be as good as people think he can be. Everyone's said think Keith with a better shot. He could certainly help alleviate some of what we'll be missing if we lose Campbell.

well yea Frank you have a point. But I've tried to be much more mellow these days.

I read a few other boards last night talking about OUR Cap problem and just had to laugh. Either they are bitter, jealous or something, because several other teams fans seem far more concerned about the Stanley Cup Champs as they do their own team.

I'm sorry but I don't feel the situation is as DIRE as most are making it out to be. Are there going to be changes, most definitely. It's called the Salary Cap for a reason. Fortunately for the Hawks they are STACKED with massive talent. I also think teams are going to be crawling out of the woodwork to be able to grab said talent. Meaning we are not going to be strong armed.

It will be a bidding war with Picks and future considerations IMO. Other than Huet. That Rocky will have to EAT so that it does not effect the Salary Cap.

Lalonde is about 2x as physical as Keith too. I haven't seen enough of Lalonde but he FLIES out there.
