It's the Harry Caray twilight mode of Foley's career we are witnessing. There were years in the late 90s when Harry forgot he was still doing a baseball game, and Steve Stone had to kind of steer him back to the game at hand. It's not to diminish the good that Harry once had as a broadcast but it was a different in those later years. The mistakes came more often, and sometimes it seemed like the in-game play by play became secondary on a broadcast.

I think the Hossa-Havlat thing had to be a organization plant, because why would there be a ready made graphic if it was Foley just going off the cuff. It seemed like a case of the org trying to pat (no pun intended) itself on the back for a shrewd move it made (Bowmans). Hossa was the better player then and now, but I think most Hawk fans that were following the team wanted Havlat back. I wanted them both as Hawks too, that is until I saw Havlat's agent tweeting and saw how ridiculous the money was getting offered around by various teams for players.

The Pulford comments started because Steve Larmer's name got brought up, and Steve Konroyd mistakingly inferred that Larmer chose to holdout (contract related) ending his consecutive games streak.

In this instance Foley was actually accurate in correcting Konroyd, even if he saw it as an opportunity to take a shot at Pulford. Foley brought up how things were promised to Larmer, specifically moving him to another team before the season so his streak would continue. Pulford didn't keep to his word (perhaps he held out hope Larmer might reconsider staying as a Hawk, or perhaps he thought he'd get a better offer from another team). Either way the season began, Larmer didn't suit up, and the streak ended. Then the trade finally goes down in Nov of that season and Larmer ends up back with Keenan in NY, the Hawks get Patrick Poulin/Eric Weinrich, but they also have to send Bryan Marchment to Hartford in the three-way deal (and if memory serves me Marchment's wife was pregnant at the time which probably sucked for his family).

I could be wrong, but I thought the "un-official" story re:Foley being let go was he had been "bad mouthing" the organization in circles he shouldn't have been and word got back to Peter.

There it is! There was one more adjustment to the poster where we took the heart, made it into a Blackhawk and had a sweet as Jesus quote to go with it.
