He was the team's leading goal scorer last year. This was the first year I thought he took a bit of a step back. The part about reinventing himself as a brawler though seemed particularly fit for that picture.

IF he was a brawler, at least he'd have a role. What exactly does he excel at now? He's a bottom 6 forward on this team imo, but he takes little to no flak... People have been up in arms about Bickell being useless this season, why not Sharp?

I got accused of not knowing hockey because I haven't posted much here since the IHN boys took this forum over. But when I do post, I get rekd for no reason. This place is the confusing.

Sharp had a great series against the Preds and the Wild. Not all guys are going to have 4 productive offensive series in the playoffs. Not everyone is duncan keith.

Sharps been playing his role fantastic. Hard to see any rip on Sharp these playoffs at this point im having a hard time ripping on anybody even saad has made me happy overall.

And it hasn't actually controlled anything of that sort at all. It was never some sort of player controll, and a guy like Matt Cooke on the roster didn't prevent

Incidences like this old legend happened http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Bertuzzi–Steve_Moore_incident and the fighting involved never settled anything because the players still wanted pot shots to get revenge.

Or stories of Gordie Howe holding grudges on players for years for taking shots at him, only to get them back 2-3 seasons later with a chop shot happened and no fighting of the players saved or prevented that type of action. Yeah that's "refs fucking up the league" fucking it up since the ways things have worked since the 50s.

Or Even cases like this happened, which Roenick says nowadays and then he fully knew it was a hit in retaliation to dirty stuff Jeremy was doing before. That could of been settled with merely a fight though right? that policies the league? But no, it really doesn't and didn't even in the past. Guys being able to fight a guy in retaliation isn't really a legitimate concept. They took dirty shots then just like guys like Cooke do now and less fighting hasn't adjusted it.

Reasons why it should remain intact:

1. Retaliation/ Self-Policing: Fighting is justified in retaliation for cheap shots and agitation.
2. Deterrence Effect: By allowing fighting, the overall level of violence, instigation, or cheap play is reduced.
3. Penalty Draw: Fighting or agitation by threatening fighting can be used strategically to induce the opposing team to commit a penalty.
4. Outgrowth of Physical/Aggressive Play: Fighting is an occasional, though expected, consequence of the physical play that is necessary to hockey.

Funny thing is Sharp use to fight and play chippy a long time ago, the first 3-4 years with the Hawks especially. Way back when Havlat was the "star" and he played with Rene Bourque on the 3rd line.

These days, not so much.

Idk who you are, IHN guy I'm guessing? Haven't seen you post much. But anyways, I like you.

Sharp had 15 more points in 12 fewer games than Bickell in the regular season. He's got 12 points to Bickell's 5 (and Bickell is still without a goal) in the postseason. Sharp hasn't been his old self, but 12 points in the postseason? I'll take that from a third-liner all day.

Did you really just compare Sharps stats to Bickells? I think that might literally be apples to oranges...

I wouldn't think too much of it. Most of this forum is the same clique of unfunny people trolling and metatrolling each other for kicks.

Stay on topic please....

If the referee role was increased to root out fighting, we would see the referees having more of an effect on the game...and one fans and players won’t like.

I've been on topic the whole thread until FistTimer and flatbread came in here to troll me.

Dont we already see the officials controlling games more than we ever have? If they arent controlling the flow they are def missing a lot of offsides in this era. Probably too busy looking out for little hacks and interference to even bother looking for basic rules like offsides. Too many rules in the rule book now have officials missing the basics.
