Maybe it's just me, but to me there's a difference between and "enforcer" and a "goon".

A goon is a guy who's sole purpose is to fight, generally cannot play that well, sees little ice time, and when is on the ice is considered a "liability"

An enforcer is a guy who can play, can score, play defense, etc, to at least an average ability that is not a liability (even an asset) on the ice when out there, but also can fight incredibly well and kick the snot out of just about anyone they match up against.

Probie was definitly an enforcer. Enforcers are incredibly rare and I think as long as fighting is allowed, will always have a place in the game. Goons, OTOH, are on their way out IMHO.
I completely agree, but unlike the legion of idiots on the O board "WE NEED AN ENFORCER" don't understand, players that fit the bob probert mold simply dont exist anymore. Eager was like a bob probert light, he had skill could produce at the right times, hit big, but he really wasnt an amazing fighter.

I totally agree.

Unfortunately, there seem to be a ton of ass clowns that think they are one in the same.

What you can do is only read topics and post in those threads that you agree with this summer instead of bashing other peoples feelings on a man who just passed away.

Its harder to post something on an internet forum that is tragic or emotionally sad vs. commenting on something that is easy to ***** about..

Agreed, love how death immortalizes people. When people realize that in fact everyone who has ever lived dies, maybe that will change, Probert was sick.............at what, I don't know.

And John Scott can go jump off a bridge.

Legend? Why not?

If you lived near Leafland you'd find that all former and present Toronto players are "legends". Not just Keon, Mahavolich, Gilmour, Clark but also Tie Domi.

Actually, I should expand that a bit - I'd say that for a lot of Canadians, almost all Canadian hockey players are legends.

I remember having Gary Dornhoffer as my insurance agent for my workplace in the mid-eighties. He visited us once at work, and I saw him as a "legend". Of course, he didn't do much insurance stuff, he went out golfing with the owners...

I happen to think of Probert as a legendary Hawk in his own way.

Legendary players are not always HOF caliber.

I agree. I would consider Keith Magnuson a Hawk legend but he's not in the Hall.
