I agree. I would consider Keith Magnuson a Hawk legend but he's not in the Hall.[/quote]

An excellent comparison!

Magnuson was not a legend until his tragic passing. He was a punching bag for the Flyers, Bruins and Canadians. Once he died in the traffic accident his career became bigger than the game itself. Don't believe me, watch old game clips and Maggy taking one for the team............well maybe like 1000 for the team.

Magnuson was a always a legend to me - he didn't have to die to become one.

I guess the view of who is a legend and who is not is so subjective. To kids growing up, almost anyone can become a legend. And that impression can stay with you for the rest of your life. I remember in the late sixties and early seventies when I bought hockey cards. Those guys were our heroes . Damn it though I used to get so many Walt Tkaczuk cards! There is so many shades to "legend"...

As to whether Bob Probert is an NHL Legend as viewed by HOF standards, then no, he is not.

For a Chicago Blackhawk fan he may indeed be, or perhaps not.

For some hockey fans, he may be just a foot note in hockey history.

He could very well be on an HOF ballot at some point.

Thanks RDR. Very sad. Tie Domi and Stu Grimson said it best. Unfortunately Probert was vilified in the media for the bad, and never really spoken about with the good.

Gotta love the media. He was nothing but class the several times I've spoken to him.

RIP Bob.

I doubt it very, very much.

Liked reading the article R K. One thing that struck me was this:

"He was the goofiest, most embarrassing dad ever," joked Brogan, eliciting chuckles from the audience, before she turned serious and drew tears.

That's what my two kids say about me.

Very sad to see Dani like that....Probie was such a good family guy. Never hid, blamed, denied any of his problems.

Its funny, the media/people that rank on him for them - I wonder what their "demons" are....I guarantee 10x worse than this guy.

Probie was a better father and person than a hockey player (even fighter). Heaven awaits, Bob.

So what Maiden if Maggy or Probie weren't legends to you. Obviously many people see them as legends and that's there opinion. Probert is a legend to me as I grew up hearing the stories and seeing the fights. Am I an idiot for thinking that?

To add to this--some would also argue that his work off the ice helped contribute to the legacy and legend of Maggie--not his death.

I believe eventually the same may be said about Sopel. Yes, he would go down as a puck magnet, but with us he obviously was not a Keith/Seabrook, but his causes off the ice do endear him to some fans that would still hold him in high esteem.

I can't argue that point. "Legendary" doesn't always mean the best.

To me, Maggie was legendary in his own way.

Probert was also a legendary player.

I am glad I got to see both of them play.
