I couldn't agree with you more Bri. Painting all Muslims with one brush is just idiotic. What better way to say **** you to the terrorists then to build a mosque at ground zero. The terrorists tell all their new recruits that the US hates Muslims and wants to destroy them. Building a mosque at ground zero says we accept muslims we don't hate them. Al Qadea would be screwed if that word got to Muslims.[/quote]

Building a mosque is a trophy to Islamic extremists. How you can make a post like that is just mind boggling. I guess we should build a memorial to Kami-Kazi pilots at Pearl Harbor as well then to show the Japanese that we don't hate them either. Your line of thinking is what weakens this country and makes us more susceptible to the next terrorist attack. Unbelievable!

Personally, I could care less is they wanted to build a mosque in the area. I'm willing to bet that a few muslims died in 9/11 that weren't related to the attacks, a long with a few jews, agnostics, etc. If thats how they want to mourn then fine by me. In fact, I think it shows a lot of class by that Rabbi.

Besdies, what constitutes holy ground? How deep does that holy ground go? And how long does the ground remain holy? Will the site of 9/11 still have the same significance in 1000 years?

No, what makes your country susceptible to more terrorist attacks is acting like a douchebag around the world.

Really? I see you are military, so there is no point in trying to point out what a mess your country has done in countries around the world trying to fulfill your Manifest Destiny. If you can't see how the actions of your country in the Middle East over several decades might result in some ill will toward your country then I can't help there. And not just the USA, but other colonial influences.

Lets just say that the current flair up radical islamism is a result of centuries of oppression and mismanagement of the Middle East. It targets the US for being the major player in world politics.

Normal European rhetoric, same people that invaded the middle east how many times????

And too, for your edification Rosh, you are right, I am military, and have been for 20 years. Also I grew up in the military. ANd you know what, it doesnt have a fucking thing to do with how I think or do things in my life.

To what Manifest Destiny are you refering? Please enlighten me? Here is your opportunity to get on your soapbox. Do you even know what you are refering to??

I think what he means is that if you're going into another country don't act like a douchebag and all high and mighty because you're an american and you think you're better than the natives there.

After all, our politicans give us a bad enough rep (true of most countries, not just the US), the last thing we need is some numbnutted american with canadian flags all over loudly complaining that the "dagum furriners can't speak a lick of english".

And yes, i've seen that tourist in Europe...and yes, I've wanted to secrete a ballpeen hammer into his genitals repeadedly for making america look bad.

I am not trying to apologize for the Europeans at all, we are as responsible to this current mess as the US are. I could have phrased it a bit better. But the current occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan are in no way helping to polish the tarnished image of the US among the youngsters in the respective countries. It has just caused another generation of angry sentiments towards the US.

Uhm, a mosque is not a trophy. It is a place of worship. Yes, the attacks were carried out in the name of religion, but there is a difference. Pull you head outta you tuchasse.

Muslims are terrorists according to some here. Then all christians are as well, as they have perpetrated over the years and continue to do so. Then so are Jewish folk, as some would say the whole debacle around Israel is being douchebags.

Also, Rosh, I am assuming you are in Europe, or from there, and if I am wrong I apologize. However, if we weren't douchebags in the 40's and came over there, millions more would have been slaughtered by the Nazi's, not just Jewish folks, but anyone who didn't fit into their ideal blond hair, blue eyed super-men mold. And did America try to make Europe bend to it's ideas? No.

Yes, America may have done some Special person shit, but sometimes it was needed. Hiroshima, Nagasaki being an example.

I can't stand us sometimes too. KOTL's example being one of those times.

This is not an enemy you can negotiate with or embrace with group hugs. And our President running around the world apologizing for the United States makes us appear weaker in the Islamic world. Terrorism has to be destroyed. We can either fight it overseas or here on our homeland.

Argh, I knew I should have kept my mouth shut and not opened this can of worms. But I just can't stand the rampant gung-ho FOX NEWS War on Terror rhetoric that Kerfuffle spews. The whole radical Islam issue is much more faceted than what the talking points regurgitated by the talking heads in the news want you to believe. I am not saying terrorism is to be condoned, but alternative solutions need to be explored. So far it's all been stick and then some more stick and look where it's gotten the world. Maybe time for a different strategy, where the youngsters of the islamic world wouldn't need to hate anything western.

You mean like allowing a Muslim culture center/mosque to built in an area near Ground Zero as part of a greater gesture to show that not all Americans are "capitalist pigs" and as a step (though small) to try and improve our relationships with Islamic countries/the Middle East?

Nah... never work. It's just too crazy. :D

If I am not mistaken, and perhaps the news has lied to me, but there is a giant youth movement in Iran that actually welcomes the western lifestyle. They can't do it super openly, as they would be destroyed by ierhufifruuifr or whatever that dudes name is.
