The Rey/Kylo Ren dynamic is one of the most interesting relationships I've seen in Star Wars. They're on opposing sides of the force, but pulled in the opposite direction, and have their own demons in the past that haunt them. I don't think either of them were really comfortable with the concept of force purity, even though they try hard to identify themselves as either Jedi/light or Sith.
-Leads to another thing, Jedi and Sith are religions, they don't define the light side or dark side of the force, the force defines them. This is a big point that Luke was discussing.
-Loved seeing Yoda again, especially in a more playful, puppet form. More true to the OT. He also knew that Rey had taken the books to the Falcon, so he was trolling Luke by burning the tree LOL.
-Rian Johnson basically gave a middle finger to people asking about Rey's parents and Snoke's origins, and I kinda like it. I just think the concept of Rey being a Skywalker, Solo, etc. is just awkward and doesn't make sense. She was left basically as a slave on a desert planet. Her parents didn't seem to give a **** about her. I'm honestly a little surprised she doesn't remember who her parents were, she didn't seem THAT young when she was left on Jakku, but w/e.
Yes, she's incredibly force sensitive. So was Anakin, and he was also a slave to a single mother. Why does she need to have a jedi or sith lineage? Most jedi historically speaking don't, because jedi aren't supposed to have children.
Kylo could be lying, though, but I hope he isn't. I'm fine with her parents being white trash, TBH.
-Definitely didn't see Snoke's death coming. Seems pretty odd that he didn't see that coming himself, considering how powerful with the force he is. Guess his hubris got in the way, still seems weak.
But I also like it in that it is fulfilling to Kylo Ren, as he kills his master(like many dark force/Sith users before him) and takes over the First Order(something Vader never technically did with the Empire). He tried to get Rey to join him, but of course she didn't. Her with the red lightsaber was of course misdirection through the trailers.
But we still know nothing about Snoke. People have been arguing the same about the Emperor in the OT(you know, before the prequels came out), but it's not the same. The empire is pretty much the status quo in the OT, and we don't know much about the past then.
In this case, you have this dude who is basically a fetus version of Palpatine leading the strongest force in the galaxy like 30 years after the fall of the Empire. Where the **** did he come from? How did he take power? This needs to be explained in some manner in 9.
Didn't like the fact they showed Snoke's tongue-out, dead face later on either. Come on, man!
-Luke was awesome. He became a bit like Yoda, but was far from perfect. He couldn't live the fact that he let Ben go to the dark side, and was pretty skeptical of the Jedi and their training, which is certainly understandable. The astral projection of him on the salt planet vs. Kylo was probably one of the best moments in the entire saga. He played Kylo and his anger and hate like a fiddle, and let the rebellion live on. A pretty much perfect way to go out for Luke. I think we will see him again, though
