Over the weekend I watched:

The First Purge - 4/10

Not sure what the point of this movie was.... if you saw the other Purge movies, this was tame/boring really.

Same setup.... poorer folks being targeted by the Purge system (in this case experiment)

Armed mercenaries being paid to amp up the amount of violence and killing.

Street gangs fighting back, trying to survive the night.

There was zero added in this prequel.

Horrible movie.

It's safe to say I'll be at the movies a lot this month.

I hate to say that Creed II has a different writer and director from the first, so I'm not as excited as I otherwise would be.

Bohemian Rhapsody was different, but I thought it worked and was actually decent. I judged it solely as a movie and didn't factor in all of the material in which it was based. I didn't know much about Freddie Mercury so it was easy for me to just sit back, watch and absorb it. From what I've read after seeing the movie, there was a lot in the movie that was actually false. So if you're a die hard Queen/Freddie Mercury fan, this movie may piss you off.

Thinking about watching Solo. Worth it? Not a huge SW fan and have disliked more than I have liked.

Thanks

The last Jedi was so bad my nephews didn’t even want to go see solo or rent it they have lost total interest in Star Wars. They are 8 & 10 years old. Doesn’t mean solo will suck but the love for Star Wars is gone for me until they fire the shit director and scrap this crap and put a better foot forward

I liked this a lot more than I was expecting.
Christine is pretty good. Excellent performances by the three leads. The special effects and direction are topnotch. The "bad kids" of the highschool are funny... they look 25, they would have scared the carp out of me. I think it's Carpenter's best film after The Thing and Halloween.

Same. It had a very interesting setting and plot... and although the plot felt newish, the characters and story stayed paper thin. I can't even say I enjoyed it.

I thought Last Jedi was plenty of fun. Has genuine organic humor in it. I didn't think much of The Force Awakens, thought it copied and pandered to New Hope too much, even a bit confusing at the end.

I forgot about the other movie I watched last weekend.

Hotel Artemis - 5/10

It was an interesting concept, but the whole movie felt rushed.

I have no idea if it was a book, but it felt like a 90 minute movie based on a 500-700 page book where they just tried to make it too concise.

I also don't honestly know what the overall narrative was.... it felt like a jumbled/clunky narrative in the middle of a genuinely intriguing setting/atmosphere.

Damn it, I started it 15 minutes ago...wished I checked here first. Might as well finish it at this point.

Yeah I would not say don't watch it.... was worth the watch IMO.

However, it did disappoint me.

Also my tastes are not the same as yours, you might enjoy it more than I did.

Just finished, I think 5/10 is a fair score...it was just meh to me. I also don't get what the narrative was.

BTW, may I add as a big fan of Jodie Foster films she was atrocious in this, definitely a phone in performance on her part. If she gave a better performance I'd up my score a bit, but nope...she was bad.
