Eastwood is 80+ yrs old. What type of real edge or weight were you looking for? Just curious.

It's a movie where an ordinary guy starts working for the cartel, and at no point does he really fear he may lose his life or get caught.

That can work, and maybe it was realistic, but I just found it made the movie a little too comfortable and safe. I thought there would be more of a suspenseful or dangerous element to it from the trailers.

This was less serious than "The Old Man and the Gun" which marketed itself as being a much lighter movie than The Mule did.

I never watched the 'trailer'. I read (the reviews) about it and saw it more as a guy trying to make amends with his family the best way he could.

Keep this in mind... 1) they told he to not look in the bag. On one of the final runs, he did look in the bag.

2) Eastwood's character was a former vet of the Korean War, so I think it would be realistic for him not to fear these cartel guys.

However, with me never seeing the 'trailer', I didn't go in with the same expectations as you. So I see your point. lol...we went in with different expectations.

Black Panther at #2. I wonder if most of these people are afraid of being called a racist if they don't have it high up

I don't know about the "racist" tag being applied here. What are your thoughts on it being at #2?

On another note.....
There was a lot of "moving parts" in the movie. A lot of the movie dealt with various African historical, cultural issues. So some ppl. may not have picked up on some of the cultural & political subtles at play.

I think it's a joke at #2. And like I mentioned earlier, I enjoyed the movie and even bought it on 4K but I just don't get why everyone thinks it's one of the greatest of the year. I don't even think it's the best superhero film of the year, let alone top 2 of all genres.

As for why I feel that way...I think Killmonger was underused. A good villain...at the time probably the best villain in the whole MCU...and a great performance from Michael B but he wasn't in the movie enough. The finally fight scene was just plan bad CGI and there were certain scenes where it was obvious there was a green screen being used.

I think the points you mentioned below are why all of these people think it's one of the greatest films of the year. It's got, primarily, an all black cast and is rich in African culture. There hasn't been a superhero film like this, but just because it has a rich African background doesn't make it one of the greatest of the year. And I personally believe people are afraid to just come out and say that because there are idiots out there that will label them racist. That's just the world we live in now.

Without even looking at the list, I'm assuming there are entries and rankings far more egregious than Black Panther.

Yes Killmonger in a way was underused (his relationship with BP was symbolical on many different levels, not just "villain" vs "hero"). Did you know some ppl. saw Killmonger as "the real hero"?

There's more going on than "rich African background"

As I mentioned earlier, there was a lot going and being weaved into the movie...lots of social, political and historical story lines going on in the movie. I think what made it a good movie was that it went past your typical "good guy vs bad guy movie" Also it wasn't a typical "superhero film"

I think this movie just scratched the surface. For that reason...... I would say top 5 for the year.

I'm using this thread to vent about something:

Has it happened to you where some guy on a social network feed of yours thinks he/she is just so clever that they put a picture of Die Hard and post, "Just Watching some Christmas Movies"? Now I don't give a single **** whether you think it classifies as a Christmas movie or not. All I'm saying is that you're not being clever trying to say that. Everyone says it now, and everyone tries to come up with some list (or passes off some recycled list) of reasons why or why not.

Just fucking stop it people. Be better.

I didn’t see him as a villain. I believe I said that before but I’m not going to try to look for that post.

Stressful doesn't sound fun. What would rate it 0-5? Recommend it?

I'd personally give it an 8.5 out of 10.

But I'm a big fan of small, contained, and cheap thriller films, so this is right up my alley.

Mandy starring Nic Cage - 1/5

I'd give it a zero but I liked the wonky filming style and the unique colors. Other than that it was pure bile.

That is such a small, small group of twats. Don't let it bother you. Much more people on my wifes feeds pleading to "Keep Christ in Christmas" several days after camping out for Black Friday deals. They are 100X worse.
