I saw Ralph Breaks the Internet while I was on vacation. It was a good movie. I personally liked it more than the first.

And I just have to say, after seeing all this potential oscar buzz and that the national board of review named it one of the best movies of 2018, I have to say that Black Panther may be the most overrated movie in my lifetime. As least that I can remember. I thought the movie was good...i even bought it on 4K...but people really need to stop with this best movie of the year shit

OMG I totally agree, I watched and was totally underwhelmed. I truly believe it got nearly unanimous praise from critics because all of them were fighter ed to give it a negative review.

Alien Vs Predator
6/10

It was better than I expected, but still thoroughly shallow. It's an action sci-fi and a fan-film, and it will please those not looking for a Ridley Scott dissertation. Doesn't go into Alien or Predator sociology. The sets are nice, and there's a few exciting moments. The fighting is alright, but not great.

Hmm... it's hard to say for me. I think they were trying to do too many things. The story of the son left behind in America, and urban decay in the US and the exploiting of the 3rd world or Africa in particular -- and what a new leader with the Wakandian power could do to change things would have been a great story to concentrate on; but this film was all over the place and much too unfocused. It's tough with an origin film to go the direction I'm suggesting, but they tried to wedge it in there almost like a sidestory, which is just crazy thing to do, that concept takes fierce commitment.

I was baffled by some of the decision making with Killmonger. He's in one scene during the first act, and doesn't appear again until the final scene of act 2. And we have no idea who he is.

Usually the 3rd act of an action movie is when things start to come together and take off. But here, because the antagonist was missing for most of the movie, the 3rd act was bogged down with long boring exposition dumps about who he was. So the audience was getting a history lesson, instead of enjoying the ride. Why not reveal him to us earlier?

Imagine The Dark Knight if Batman had never even heard of The Joker until Harvey Dent and Rachel were kidnapped by him.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
I think it wasn't marketed properly, at least in my eyes. Based on the trailer, I was expecting it to be more "thrilling" I guess. I wasn't expecting it to be as slow. I didn't think the characters, except for maybe the tall girl(can't remember her name) were fleshed out that well. We're supposed to sympathize with Viola Davis character because she'd have to give everything up in order to pay off her "debt" but at the end of the day, she only had those things because of her husbands criminal activity. I felt nothing for her and thought her character was dull.

As for believable factory, I didn't really have an issue with that aspect. I didn't see, or at least remember, anything outrageous happening that I thought to myself "there's no way in hell that would happen in real life." I didn't see The Girl in the Spider's Web so I can't compare the two. Based off what I've heard and read about that movie, I'd like Widows more. I didn't think Widows was bad, it just didn't come close to living up to the hype that critics put upon it.

Thanks. It's sounds like you would've preferred a much more toned down approach with the marketing. I didn't understand the "Windows" title.

It was the first film, takes place in Antarctica, which might look like CO.

I disappointed when I heard the approach... which I'd just say is the Predator approach, it's just an action film. Definitely not an Alien film, not going to have any real sci-fi or emotional depth, let alone horror.

Didn't they mostly call in airstrikes to knock out any superior numbers?

They had a lot of air support but it's a unique story. They got the job done in 3 weeks when it was estimated to take 2 years, they also fucking executed a cavalry charge.

Imagine literally watching a bunch of fake stuff that didn't happen. Wish I could be so easily amused.

Why didn't you just say that to begin with? I get you're saying it's jingoistic violent entertainment, but you don't know if it happened or not. I hadn't heard anyone doubt the initial takeover of Kabul from the Taliban was done with a small US force joining with local opposition groups and using a ton of airstrikes along the way. You want to persuade people not to watch it as entertainment, but then you wreck your mission by insulting him coming off like an ass.

That animated Spiderman movie that is supposed to be good still has an official release date of December 14th but it's coming here for two showings on Friday and Saturday this week. If anyone is interested in seeing it early, check to see if it's around you. They keep sneaking in these dates.

I'm going to "have to" see that and Bumbleblee on the same day.

Are you the type to see one as a matinee, and then the next after dinner or maybe even as a late show? I tend to need a larger break between films. Been decades since I've seen a double feature. Plus films seem to be longer these days, from the normal 90mins to now being 2 - 2.5 hrs.

No, I'm the type that compulsively has to see movies as soon as I can, down to the first showing. I see almost everything at 7PM on the Thursday it releases. I can't help it. Plus as someone who spends a good portion of my online time talking about movies, it's nice to be up to date.

I prefer to see movies on separate days, but if I don't see Bumblebee on the 8th I'll have to wait another 12 days knowing I could've seen it already, which is unbearable to me. And if I don't watch Spiderman that day, I'll have to wait another week. So I'm just doing them both. It's not ideal, but it's also not like I'm scheduling a comedy film to watch right after Schindler's List.

This will be my first double feature since 2016 when I watched The Witch and 10 Cloverfield Lane on the same day/night. It's not a habit, I don't think I've ever done it before then.
Spiderman starts at 2, and Bumblebee at 7 for the record. They're the only times available, I'm not picking them.

That actually works out great. Grab a friend or two, get out of Spiddy about 4pm, stretch your legs, have a slow relaxing dinner out, see Bee at 7pm.
