Rate the last movie you watched

Now you hit on what I have ranked as my #2 all time movie behind The Sting. I loved the original 12 Angry Men. The Remake is solid too, but give me the original anytime.

Can't believe I didn't mention earlier but if you like courtroom stuff then definitely check out the OJ Simpson series FX did that ends tonight. One of the best mini-series I've ever seen. Never thought 7 or so episodes of pure courtroom stuff could be this entertaining.

Neither did I and hardly do now. Fortunately, as its been shown for many decades, uninteresting stories can make for great dramatizations. I don't care about Jordan Belfort but I think The Wolf of Wall Street was a damn good movie for example. Same with Jake LaMotta and Raging Bull or Henry Hill and Goodfellas. To each their own though.

cold in july.

starts out seeming like a typical cape fear-esk thriller, but then flips the whole thing on its head and goes somewhere completely unexpected. unless perhaps if youve read the novel, which i have not.

sure, theres some plot holes and some weird characterization, but i was pleasantly surprised. it was good.

Very disappointed, considering the quality of Jeff Nichols previous work. Writing and directing were sub-par.

I'm seeing Green Room tonight, pretty sure that will be a lot better.

I know people loved it and I'm not sure why?

I didn't hate it by any means, but it followed a plot line I feel like I've seen in that setting, many times before.

The scenery was cool.... the scene with the Bear attack was awesome.

The plot was so predictable I was sure of most of what would happen within the first 10 mins of the movie.

I heard the same thing.... And I think one person said that cause they like Tom Hardy and everyone said it.

I mean the characters are rough frontiersmen who don't talk alot... idk how any of the character performances would be great.

It is not a bad movie by any means, I just am not getting what people found so great about it nor Tom Hardy's performance.

The characters don't have a whole lot of depth.... Leonardo is an enraged father of a Native American kid who Tom Hardy murdered and Tom Hardy is an asshole frontiersman who hates "injuns". FYI dis not spoiler since the fucking previews have Leo saying "He killed my son...".

It is a brutally honest movie.... the scenes are cool to look at... but if you watch 10 mins of this movie and then guess the remainder of the plot I bet you can get it mostly right.

EDIT: And they stole the thing from Gladiator where Russel Crow hallucinates about his dead wife/son every 20 minutes.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I thought it was gritty and real of the time. I like movies like that. Maybe you just like more disbelief than realism?

Not an action thing, but a drama about one man's indelible spirit with an unbelievable will. Firstly with 2 sides that could not be more obviously divided, he chooses to go against the grain at a time when all others among him know nothing other than going with the grain. There's the eternal father/son bond. The courage and will so strong he could kill the grizzly even as it was clawing and pounding every last bit of life out of his own body. The will to survive afterwards despite the harsh conditions and his body being broken. He hides til he can walk as it's the only hope for survival.

He helps the squaw escape her captors in an act of mercy that will be returned to him at the end of his struggle. The loss of his son eating away at his heart, he needs no more time for treatment or to get well, he has all the will to push through until he can avenge the murder of his son as that is all that he requires as he has nothing else to live for now that he has lost his beloved son.

It's a triumph of the human spirit, brotha.

I'm with you Ares. This movie was not an original idea, or done better than the many movies that have dealt with this idea. Richard Harris did this story back in the 70s, and this movie isn't much better.This isn't a bad movie, but it's not incredible either.

I'm not surprised Spartan found something to like in this film. The lone wolf against all odds. Avenging the death of a son. Cliched dilemma dressed as art.

The use of CGI was terrible, and Leo did his best Mel Gibson impersonation. Bird Man was a much better film by the same director.

Ridley Scott sucks. Prometheus and The Martian are terrible movies. So overrated. In fact, I don't think Hollywood is capable of making a decent movie about space. Interstellar was also crap. Melodramatic soap opera stories in somewhat remarkable settings. Just terrible stuff. Matt Damon and Matthew Mcconaughey duking it out on an empty planet (Iceland). Hilarious.

Never said Bird Man was a great film. Just better than The Revenant. Haven't seen 10 Cloverfield, and have no desire to.
