Taking antibiotics without going to the doctor first isn't a good idea. Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections, not viral infections. So if it's a virus that's causing your pain, the antibiotics would be completely useless. Not only would they be useless, but you could be hurting yourself in the long run. When you use antibiotics when you aren't supposed to, you risk having the bacteria in your body in the future resist the antibiotic. So when you actually do need it, it probably won't help. And if it is a virus, there isn't much a doctor can do anyway. They usually just let it run its course... unless it's threatening your life.
I've had strep throat a ton of times in my life. My throat was killing me, I always had a mild-moderate fever, tender glands and spots on the back of my throat and tonsils. A couple of months ago, I had the same symptoms. Convinced it was strep, I went to the doctor to get some antibiotics.... they tested it and it was negative for strep and was actually a viral infection. So they just let it run its course and it went away about 3-4 days later. Point is, you won't know unless you go to the doctor.
So I have a really bad sore throat and it won't go away. I found some amoxicillin antibiotics from a few months ago that I never finished. So I'm taking those but it's not helping as of yet. Have only taken 2 so far though.
Been drinking hot tea and hot chocolate and tons of water to no avail. Any remedies you guys can suggest? Might be strep but idk. Really hoping these antibiotics kick in soon.
I've had sore throats before but this one is the worst I've ever had. It hurts like REALLY bad when I swallow. (Inb4 *** joke)
Any help is appreciated
I'm no doctor, but the pain is caused by your mucus membranes. Take Mucinex and drink LOTS of fluids. The Mucinex will thin out the mucus, and the fluids will help flush it out of your system. That's about all you can do. Antibiotics should be the LAST option, however. I wouldn't take those without consulting a doctor first.

First of all, if you have leftover antibiotics you're kind of a tard. You use them until they are gone. Don't stop just cause you feel better. Second, self medicating with antibiotics when you don't know what you have is like nuking a city cause you think your house might have termites.
