Braves have never shown that much interest in Garza. All the talk has been Dempster or Greinke for the Braves. I don't think the Braves are really looking for an arm for next season, but just something for a run this year. Could be wrong about that, but they just have never really been linked to Garza or Liriano for that matter.

Well, Liriano's terrible. There hasn't been a ton of links to him at all. You are correct about Garza, but I'd still explore the option. I think Garza will probably be more beneficial to them, but it also depends on the own long term plans. They may only want a single-season rental to keep room for Vizcaino and Teheran.

I think that is where they are at to be honest. They probably aren't even looking for a pitcher if Beachy doesn't go down. So I think they want to part with Delgado and some other minor pieces to get an impact arm for a run this year, and don't want to pay for guys with extra years of control (both in prospects and cash next year). Delgado and Pastroinicky (spelling of that SS) would be an interesting offer for the Brewers despite them holding out for Teheran right now.

Webster plus Gould, perhaps? At some point one of them is going to overpay for Greinke.
If true, I gotta imagine the Cubs would take Webster and run if the Dodgers don't blink.

What is given up for Greinke may also give us an indication of how at least one team views the value of the compensatory draft pick.

I'm really starting to think the compensation pick is an empty threat by the Cubs, and a top 100 prospect would be worth more than a compensation pick I would guess.

Execs from clubs that have spoken with L.A. say #Dodgers projecting air of optimism they can find a way to make Ryan Dempster trade w/ #Cubs

Your women...how much for the women?
I am so ready for this to be done and I will only ***** slightly if the return is Webster. And would be pretty happy if the Cubs got another pitching prospect on top of him.

I'd go for that. Webster looks like he could be a good fit in Wrigley. His numbers are kind of ugly at Chatanooga, but the peripherals kind of suggest he's either been unlucky or the defense has been terrible behind him. Looking at the team's defensive stats, it looks like they make the majority of plays they get too... but they also seem to have fewer chances at each position (particularly the IF) than the other teams in the SL do. Could be the pitching styles, could be a lack of range. You'd think that having Webster and Eovaldi both combining for 24 starts and both known for being good groundball-pitchers, that they'd have more chances than they have. Gould could pan out to be a decent back-end type. However, I'd rather have Chris Reed as a potentially dominant RP. Then again, we seem to have a number of good, live, right-handed arms on their way to the pen.

I would rather get a guy that has a chance to be a starting pitcher than a reliever. As you said we've got some interesting options for right handed power relievers in the upper minors already. Mostly I just want this to be done, and I want to be able to move on to getting rid of the other commodities.

Reed at this point seems to be on the border of going either way, but most scouting reports seem to agree that he's more suited for the pen. He's starting right now for Chattanooga, and has had success, as well as at Rancho Cucamonga earlier in the year.

I was talking in general, but in the case of Reed most do seem to think that he will be in the pen. As I said earlier though I just want to get Webster and be done with this to be honest.

Garza's trade is hindered by him being out of action but I'm sure with a staff of dozens they are able to work on multiple trades at once. I understand that it modifies the market if Dempster is gone first, but I think the Cubs and 29 other GMs (or however many are looking to add) can multitask.

All that said, yes, get it over with already

I don't think the Dempster situation prevents the Cubs from doing other things, but it is taking time away from getting other deals done. And it certainly affects the market of Maholm and Garza as well. But mostly I just want this to be done.

Incarcerated Bob is reporting this:
**UPDATED MLB NEWS**Source: Cubs & Dodgers are in final stages of getting deal done for #Dempster -- Could be done before weekend #IBN
Grain of salt though since he initially claimed that Dempster was going to waive his 10-5 rights to Atlanta.

I don't believe this until I see him hopping a plane.
