Well the rumor was the Cubs were asking for Zach Lee. Delgado is clearly a step down from Lee, but a lot of people were saying that the best the Cubs could get was B/B- prospects or lower. Delgado, while his stock has fallen, is better than that.

Yeah. I don't get why the Cubs would go after Delgado when he's already been in the major leagues this year. So now he'll be AAA talent. I thought they wanted some younger pitching talent.

I think Zach Lee would've been better. But whatever, just my opinion.

1. So, he's made his debut. Even better. Younger? He's only 22.

2. We weren't getting Lee for Dempster.

Well he hasn't done anything great in the majors this year. He's a great pitching prospect and the Cubs desperately needed that, it just doesn't seem to fit because he's more advanced. But since he's only 22 that makes sense.

Don't really know much about the guy. Claiming ignorance.

5 years of control remain with Delgado, and I've always argued that I think age matters more to the Cubs than control (not that it isn't important). While I certainly doubt they will be big spenders in free agency, I really doubt they don't have the cash to lock up the guys that are good when the time comes. And I think everyone agrees Zach Lee would have been better, but that is kind of the point. The Dodgers weren't willing to give that up and everything else would have been lower than Delgado which is more than what every expert was really expecting.

Goldstein is confirming that the deal is not done, but the issue might be mundane like the commish office signing off on the cash the Cubs are sending.

Fair enough. I don't think the Sox even have a top 50 prospect.

Yeah Delgado is certainly rated higher than anything in the Sox system.

According to BA, the Sox highest prospect is Reed at 66....(this is a preseason ranking, I think)

And he's the only one in the top 100. So basically the Sox don't even have a current prospect in the top 100. How sad.

Dempster is tweeting in all caps that there is no trade. Worried now...

I don't know, but it is weird for all these well connected people to be so sure and then so wrong.

Maybe they like the idea of going into next year with Samardzija, Wood, and Delgado and trying to let them figure it out in the majors while some of the young bats continue to advance. And then get some of the younger pitchers back in a deal for Garza.

Is that current?

Ya, this season with Reed but BA is way more trustworthy of course.

Kap says Dempster hasn't approved it, fearing my suspicions are accurate.
