I really hope this is true. Compared to what I was hearing last week, Delgado is a steal.
How do taxes work? I wonder if Dempster can get a tax break for working part of the year in Georgia (I assume lower taxes) as opposed to IL or CA (damn socialist moneysuckers)
He would have to pay part of the taxes for the time he worked in GA.GA taxes are 6% for upper income. Illinois taxes are 5%. Since Dempster's US residence is in IL, I think he'd have to pay taxes there regardless of being paid by a team in GA.
Sveum is calling the deal with Atlanta a fabrication and that it isn't waiting Dempster approval. This is the strongest denial and while I could see Sveum trying to take the heat off of Dempster. It is certainly worrisome.
Well, how many times have we heard a manager say "there's no trade, it's all false" only to see the trade materialize a day or two later? It wouldn't surprise me to find out that he was told to say this... or that he hasn't been placed in the loop regarding the trade yet.

*Taken back since I reread your post*Taxes are based upon residence, not work location. Almost all ballplayers pay taxes in the state of their residence, and not in the state they are working. Exceptions are NY, IL, and CA... as they have special (unconstitutional) laws that force people who work within their borders but live elsewhere to pay a small tax rate (taxation without representation). Plus, if the Cubs are still paying the majority of his contract... officially his income would still be base majorly in IL.
How long do you think Atlanta waits before they pull the plug? Of course, if the Braves were the leakers then the Cubs could yell at them and ask them to give a few more hours or days of leeway while they do damage control.
Sullivan is reporting that Tom Ricketts is traveling from Cooperstown to Pittsburgh
Sahadev Sharma on Twitter: "Completely agree w/ @espnchijon, Cubs new FO has been very tight lipped, it seems someone in ATL leaked story earlier than Cubs liked"
