Kenneth Grant, the NT from Michigan is a behemoth. Gotta wonder what a guy presently prognosticated as a late 1st/early 2nd round pick needs to prove in this game, and what this can can do to elevate him. He already has experience in 4 man front and 3 man front.

Wink Martindale ran a fascinating hybrid look, 4 over 3 scheme, where he’d bunch 3 DL on 1 side of the line then leaves his NT on the other side, or the train, where the 5 techs are stacked wide and and ILB stacks over the NT and both stand up edges stack over the 5Ts and you don’t know which one blitzes.

He and Deone Walker are the top of the board for fat NTs. No, not the 310 lb variety like Andrew Billings, the 340-350+ variety like when we had peak Eddie Goldman a couple years back.

I’d love him with one of the 2nds, whereas I don’t think Walker stays on the board by the end of the 1st round.
A mock from The Athletic this morning:

“10. Chicago Bears: Kelvin Banks Jr., OT, Texas

Chicago spent the No. 1 pick last year on quarterback Caleb Williams … then promptly gave up 68 sacks this season. For Williams to make strides under new coach and offensive guru Ben Johnson, the Bears need to improve up front.
Banks (6-foot-4, 320 pounds) won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top interior lineman and has positional flexibility. The Bears need a plug-and-play offensive lineman in the worst way, and Banks will start somewhere on day one.

39. Chicago Bears (from CAR): Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan

41. Chicago Bears: Wyatt Milum, iOL/OT, West Virginia”

Not bad in my opinion. Just fortify both lines in free agency and the draft. Get a vet safety too.

This is perfection! Exactly the kind of draft I would do.

The Jackson thing bums me out. He played great at LT and he’s an elite guard. I think he’s going in round one now. He’s earned it.

I was hoping he’d be a Bear in round 2.

Add in a power running back in the third.

Gervon is the 3 tech?

Not sure why we are already moving on from a guy who had a higher pressure rate than jalen carter this past regular season
I like Walter Nolen better then Dex. and Carter at the time he was picked. Nolen is the best pure GAP shooting DT I've seen in a minute.

Not only that he played a heavy 2GAP and very well with the Aggies as a Zero and 4i and Five.

The difference between Dexter/Carter and Nolen at the collegiate level is Dexter and Carter got the pressures, yet Nolen also gets the pressures and brings it home and closes the deal with the money stats against the pass.

You guys keep referencing Jalen Carter, when I didn't even want the Bears to take Carter. I wanted an OT instead, and still stand by the Wright pick as long as they upgrade the rest of the Offensive line.

Since you insist on the Carter and Dexter comparisons then OK Dexter isna one dimensional DT that gets a shitload of pressures and on a good day is average at best against the run.

Carter gets fewer pressures, but gets more than enough and is a shutdown tank against the run with 12 TFLs on the season to Dexter's 4. Theres your difference. Eight more TFLs is every bit as meaningful as 8 more Sacks. You are not running the ball anywhere near Carter.

Carter had 6 pass deflections to Dexters 1..Youd think Dexter would have won that one. Carter had 2 forced fumbles to Dexters goose egg. To be fair Dex did scoop up a couple of someone elses ffs.

Even before the Billings injury better OCs ran the ball right at Dexter and did fairly well for themselves.

Your 3 Technique should be the best and most complete player in a 1 GAP 4-3

I don't care how you want to slice it, with or without Dexter, Walter Nolen makes the defensive line better day 1 and alot better year 2 and forward.

If you cant even garauntee that a recorded pressure has any real effect on the end result of the play then it isn't a real stat, or "advanced" stat. It's a variable

You havent liked dexter at DT/3T since day 1.

DT's take a lot longer than 2 years to develop. Look at how most of the top DT's in the league performed in their 2nd year in the nfl. Dexter is on pace or outperforming them.

Dexter looks like he can be a very good player. I'm not comparing him to carter, carter is a better player, I was pointing out that he's not terrible at 3 technique like you think he is.

I'm not against drafting another DT but its prob like the 5th highest need right now on this roster(if that). You certainly need a rotational piece but Billings and Dexter were both playing very well together prior to the injury

Agreed. I think Nolen may have a higher ceiling than Graham. I’d be perfectly happy with him at 10.

OG and Edge in 2 if the boards falls that way.

FYI

Really, there are currently 8 starting QBs in the NFL who participated in the Senior Bowl. Off the top of my head I can think of two players on the Eagles who played in the Senior Bowl, Zack Baun and Lane Johnson. Amazingly none of them were UDFAs.
Bro, the original thread title was only for the Shrine Bowl. He was doggin’ me about it. This is a joke. I added the Senior bowl to the thread title later as it really shouldn’t be two threads.

S Shamari Simmons, Arizona State
Shamari Simmons had the most impressive interception at the Shrine Bowl. He carried a tight end deep down the field before high-pointing the football and reeling it in with soft hands. He had a strong week.

A former FCS player from Austin Peay, Simmons stepped right in under Kenny Dillingham at Arizona State. Not only did he make a living behind the line of scrimmage with nine tackles for loss in 2024, but he led the nation in forced fumbles with four.

It’s time to turn his tape on.

TE Jalin Conyers, Texas Tech
While Jalin Conyers only saw 40 targets this season with the Red Raiders, he has all of the makings of one of those rare players who has a better NFL career than college one. Not only was Conyers strong in every phase as a receiver, including after the catch, but he was a vocal leader as well.

You could hear Conyers all week directing the other tight ends who had questions about protections and play calls. He took the week seriously and it showed on the field. Not only is he one of the biggest tight ends in the class, but moves well at his size.

RB Rocket Sanders at the Shrine Bowl is worth watching. He had a great year in 2022 at Arkansas with speed and power (6', 225) but had a bad injury and transferred to South Carolin last year and regained some of his flash. If he's back to 2022 form, he could be a steal in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Two dudes that are losers are Fannon, that TE out of Bowling Green, and Walker, that big DT out of Kentucky. I’d like for Walker to fall into the 3rd so we can scoop him up, or even the fourth for a cheap trade up, all raw and needing to be cooked up.

Zabel at C is an idea that is seriously growing on me.
