The Jackson thing bums me out. He played great at LT and he’s an elite guard. I think he’s going in round one now. He’s earned it.

I was hoping he’d be a Bear in round 2.
The thing about this draft is after the first five or six players there is no consensus on who the next 15 or so players are. At that point it is an in the eye of the beholder type draft.

Things will get a lot more clear after the combine when some of these mid dudes run a 4.5 40 at 260 pounds and people go crazy

They need speed much more than a power back. Johnson’s success rate was way above average on short yardage. Problem is what happens if he gets another concussion?
Not counting on Johnson at all in 2025. Ben Johnson's backfield when he became OC Swift/Jammal Williams. Bears have a better chance at a power back in this draft than Williams.

What offensive lineman do you expect to make it to the open market that's any good?
It won't be the open market, but I expect Trey Smith will be a tag and trade player. In this case the Bears should swing for the fences. Last offseason Sneed was that player for KC, they got a 2025 third in that trade for one of the best corners in the league.

Never said that but okay

I have said dexter has shown plenty of flashes, is younger than carter, and has potential to develop into a very good to great DT as well. Most DT's dont become probowlers in 2 years. Look at what the top DT's in the league did in year 2 vs. dexter.

Again, dexter had a higher pressure rate than carter. That isnt debatable, its an actual stat based on total pressures vs. snaps

Before billings went down, dexter looked like he was going to have a great fringe probowl year.

Dexter was a top 3 player on this defense last year. People should be very high on him. If you watched carter all year you'd see plenty of games where he disappeared too, especially early in the year
If Carter plays like he did vs the Commanders in the SB, that is he didn’t do anything at all, the Eagles won’t win. They need him to occupy both Humphrey & Smith. You can make the case he’s the most important player in the game for the Eagles.

Reports are that Trey Smith won't be tagged.

But feel like there's still a good chance he never makes it to FA and re-signs with KC. Everyone was saying the same thing about Chris Jones...

Chris Jones highest paid defensive lineman in the league, 101 million guaranteed. Creed Humphery highest paid Center in the league, 72 million a season. IS KC also going to make Smith the highest paid guard in the league? Extensions at some point, Thuney OG, McDuffie CB, Karlaftis DE. KC has a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason. Sneed was also a tough decision last offseason, perhaps the best CB in the league in 2024.

I remember some guy here mentioning him, and at 240 lbs., Martinez is a big back and needs to on the Bears’ radar!
Similar running style as L’von Bell. Will dance at the line sometimes, but when he puts his foot in the ground and goes tough back to being down. Good hands out of the backfield as well. Did really well in his 1 year at the U.

Very true, but the salary cap can always be manipulated. An other things considered: Thuney is 32 years old, maybe he doesn't see an extension, gets cut, traded, etc? idk

and others can't bench 12 times despite being 300+ lbs. I think we need to make sure our O-linemen (if we draft there) are strong.

Yup this tidbit that I found above checks out.

He's going to be a career backup in the NFL. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane, i.e., he is shite at breaking tackles and lets 185 lbs. CBs tackle him regularly. The players I love on your team are Skat and Shamari Simmons.

I wonder how in play for the offensive line help the Bears really will be.

Things are spicing up right now that the Bears will try to fix the O line in free agency with Trey Smith being the target everyone knows about, but there is also talk that they will throw a bag at Drew Dalman as well.

Makes sense to target those two since LG is the one spot this draft is super rich on in terms of offensive line...

I mean you think you know Conyers but you don't. ASU was down to using him as a Wildcat QB because they had 4 injured QBs at the end of 2023. He had 8 rushes for 43 yards and a TD from the QB position as a 6-5 260 pound TE. He had 22 rushes for 97 yards on the season.

They have a speedback, who rarely breaks tackles, in Swift. What they need is a complete back who can make the short yards when needed as well as break the long ones with speed and elusiveness. There will be several available in the second through 5th rounds. Roshon is barely NFL quality and will be gone when his contract ends.
Swift is not a speed back. He’s nowhere near the breakneck speed of Gibbs, Achane, and others. He’s quick and shifty but he’s not a particularly good runner either. He’s just average to slightly above average.

Thuney is no longer an OG. Apparently they want to keep him at LT next season if they don’t find anyone.

O m g

You think that the Guard position is drafted based on left vs right in the NFL?

This has to be trolling.

Fishbain’s Senior Bowl Mock via The Athletic:

Round 1, Pick No. 18 (mocked trade from Seattle): Aireontae Ersery, OT, Minnesota

At 6 feet 5 3/4 and 339 pounds, Ersery has a goal for the combine: “I want to show that big boy’s got wheels on him.” He was a standout player during the first day of practices, using a strong punch to win multiple one-on-one pass-rush reps. “I’m physical, coachable,”

Ersery said about what he wants to prove this week. “It doesn’t matter what the weather is, I can still go out there and f—ing play hard. I don’t let the circumstances dictate my play. I can pick up the playbook easy. And I’m versatile. I can switch to left, play right. That’s what I wanted to show.” Ersery went 33rd in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft.

Round 2, Pick No. 39 (from the Carolina Panthers): Donovan Ezeiruaku, edge, Boston College

Few players had more highlight-reel reps than Ezeiruaku, whose power, ability to rip through offensive tackles and pursuit were all on display in Mobile. On the first day, in a rep against West Virginia’s Wyatt Milum, Ezeiruaku swiped down the offensive lineman’s hands and showed his burst to the quarterback. He’d be a nice complement to Montez Sweat.

Round 2, Pick No. 41: Jonah Savaiinaea, OL, Arizona

On Day 1, Savaiinaea played tackle and said after practice that he thought he overset with his hands. “That’s not me,” he said. “I want to show the coaches I can respond to adversity, so I’ll come back tomorrow and show that I belong here.” At guard Wednesday, he said his eyes were “great,” and now it’s about trusting his hands. Savaiinaea, who’s a shade under 6-4, 339 pounds, said he prefers playing inside because he likes to get his hands on the defender right away. He had several reps against one of the top players in Mobile: Texas A&M’s Stewart.

Round 2, Pick No. 50 (mocked trade from Seattle): Grey Zabel, G/C, North Dakota State

Considered one of the winners early in the week at the Senior Bowl, Zabel stood out because of his strength at the point of attack. He kept defensive linemen at bay, moved his feet well and wasn’t fazed by the jump in talent. The question for scouts — and the Bears — is how he handles the responsibilities at center. If he can manage the center calls and the snapping, he certainly has the rest of the skills necessary for the line, and the Bears need a starting center.

Round 3, Pick No. 72: Jaylin Noel, WR, Iowa State

Brugler said Noel helped his draft stock over the first two days of practice. We knew about the speed, but one rep caught my eye. On a deep ball down the left sideline, Noel was covered well but showed impressive body control to adjust to the ball in the air and still come down with it for a big gain. If the Bears don’t re-sign Keenan Allen, they’ll need a No. 3 receiver.
