Jordan disagreed pretty much with Miami retiring his jersey...as he openly dismissed having the league retire his jersey. It remains one of the most baffling things I have seen in NBA sports...

i was giving an example of an extreme to show that jersey retirement deals with accomplishments and veneration, but i think there are instances where the player may have not been that great but may have been instrumental in championships(a couple that come to mind, like in the case of the trail blazers), or in jordan's case, not even played on the team at all

i always felt it was the big 3 in chicago with pippen, jordan, and rodman

i also think that the jersey retirement thing has also become iconic(just my perception though) and rodman was not only instrumental to those championships, but an icon as well, on and off the court(ya, ya off the court stuff is mostly "arbitrary")

all im saying is i think there's a legitimate case for retiring rodman's #

plus its not like anyone else would wear..unless they are like ron artest or just a dick

which part? Miami retiring his jersey or MJ saying he doesn't want the league to retire his jersey?

MJ seems to think retiring his jersey league wide as a mandate is a bit much...I agree with him. But then again, I think Gretzky's number being retired is over the top. Jackie Robinson is a different story.

The Miami thing was over the top and silly by Pat Riley.

They were advertised as the Big Three...or 4...because of Phil Jackson...but the argument can be made that you could plug and play a decent power forward into that lineup and win titles...mainly because of Jordan, Pippen and Jackson. What dilutes the argument concerning Rodman is the Bulls had dominated the league in previous years with no Rodman...Jordan went on an open recruitment, courting players like Jayson Williams and telling him that if he came to the Bulls, they could win a bunch or rings. I don't disagree with MJ.

I don't think the second 3-peat is possible without Rodman. He was a clutch defender and the GOAT rebounder. Not even Jordan could win everything on his own, sure he had Pippen; but Rodman wasn't just there to collect his rings at the end of the year.

TL;DR - I wouldn't mind if we retired Rodman's number.

If you say you retire Rodman´s number because he was part of the big 3 during the second title run, you have to think about retiring Horace Grant´s number, too. Don´t u?

Not if you don't think Horace wasn't as good. Even if people think they are similar players, that doesn't mean they think they're the same. It's quite possible for people to see Rodman as superior to Horace Grant.

And I'm not saying they shouldnt retire Horace's number. But I don't think you can claim Horace deserves this just because it happens for Rodman (if it were to happen for Rodman).

I also find it interesting that Crystallas condemns others for not experiencing bygone eras...but he likes to give his opinions on them as he sees fit....

There is a good chance he didn't "experience" Jordan's rookie season...let alone Ballamy's...but feel free to comment and have opinions about it...based on stats...go right ahead...

As much as I like Rodman, his # shouldn't be hanging up in the rafters with Mike, Love, Sloan & Pippen. If they retired Rodman's #, I'm pushing for them to retire Longley's.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
I think Ben Gordon should have his #7 retired before Rodman's 91...
