Strange no one questioned the 2 different voices.

What is strange is, that is actually happened in real life, and that's the part you question. Bizarre.

BlacKKKlansman was a juvenile film. Green Book was a middle of the road buddy film, with soft treatment of racial tension. Neither deserved a nomination.

In real life it was questioned. What I will say is Spike's movie was closer to the truth than Green Book. Neither deserved a nomination, IMO

" juvenile" is a good way to characterize it. I just never liked the way Lee delivers the message in his film's.
For example, trying to tie in David Duke to Trump at the end of BlacKKKlansman . I thought that was real cheesy.

Real cheesy or unnecessary?

Duke and Trump are joined at the hip.

That Justin Chang guy got destroyed with his LA Times review of Green Book. Literally over 200 reviews trashing his article which says "Green Book was the worst Oscar winner since Crash".

I admit I didn't see Green Book because those types of movies don't entertain me the way action, horror, comedy do. I go to movies to be entertained. Not to learn something from a historical perspective. Never got into war movies either. That said though, everyone I know that saw Green Book loved it. And with that, I might go see it when it comes to Red Box or Netflix.

See post 50. But imagine if Bohemian Rhapsody was told from the perspective of Freddie Mercury's hair stylist and the actor that played his hair stylist was nominated for Best Actor while the actor playing Freddie Mercury was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

The issue some have with the movie is that Shirley was the famous person in this film not his white driver. Yet the story is told from the white driver's perspective. Some people are tired of seeing movies about the racism blacks faced as told from the perspective of their presumed white savior.

Did you see the movie? If so, can you explain to me in a simple way why people think this was a bad movie?

Saw the movie and thought it was a good movie for what it was. It was the story of a trip through the south with a black musical genius told from the pov of the white driver. I think the people complaining abt the movie are complaining bc they are not surprised that another "white savior" type movie is going to win. Also, many people from Dr. Shirley's family are saying this is not exactly how the story went.

Having said all that, I don't think the Academy ever said what the requirements are to win an award...so if they want to give Green Book the award, it's up to them. They can choose however they want.

I never set out to learn anything significant from the movie, so I was just entertained. It didn't move me to tears or anything like that. It was just a feel good movie just like Instant Family. Also am a big fan of Ali

Is it a narration? Kinda like Red (Morgan Freeman) telling the story of Andy (Tim Robbins) in Shawkshank Redemption?

Having not seen the movie, to me it would depend how it's done. The vibe I get. And if the story was factual (if it's supposed to be).

Movies about race can be hard to pull off. People can get offended. A lot of people at work liked it. Ofcourse, they are white like me.

I tend to stick to more lighthearted movies. Just my cup of tea.

I don't care for how they select a lot of the movies at the Oscars. I wouldn't be surprised if it's half rigged. Only movie I saw on the entire list of nominees was The Black Panther. Thought it was worthy of winning. Ofcourse, other movies could have been as well. Knew right away though that they would never let a superhero movie win best picture.

How factual it is depends on who you talk to. The Shirley family disagrees with the writer who is the son of the white driver. For his part, Ali apparently apologized to the family because he was told that Shirley didn't have any relatives left.

After the Shirley family made their displeasure with the film known on NPR, Edwin and Maurice heard from Ali. “I got a call from Mahershala Ali, a very, very respectful phone call, from him personally. He called me and my Uncle Maurice in which he apologized profusely if there had been any offense,” Edwin told Shadow and Act. “What he said was, ‘If I have offended you, I am so, so terribly sorry. I did the best I could with the material I had. I was not aware that there were close relatives with whom I could have consulted to add some nuance to the character.’”

Since the movie was written and scripted from Nick Vallelonga's ( the son of driver.) perspective he should have been the one apologizing to Shirley family for not consulting with them on accuracy issues. IMO.

Unfortunately, Mahershala Ali had no power. He had to do what he was told.

I agree. Actually, of the movies nominated, my favourite was Black Panther but we know that no superhero movies were going to win. I know ppl loved Roma, but I wasn't too much of a fan.

True. An actor has to follow script. I guess he could have refused to act in the movie. Highly doubt that a B list actor would refuse that high profile of a role though which could advance his career exponentially.

BlacKKK and Green Book are the only two nominated which I have seen so far. I would imagine there were a lot of better movies than either of those made lade last year.
