Thinking about the past winners... it's incredible that Silence of the Lambs won best picture. No way that wins with today's set criteria.
True. An actor has to follow script. I guess he could have refused to act in the movie. Highly doubt that a B list actor would refuse that high profile of a role though which could advance his career exponentially.
Saw the movie and thought it was a good movie for what it was. It was the story of a trip through the south with a black musical genius told from the pov of the white driver. I think the people complaining abt the movie are complaining bc they are not surprised that another "white savior" type movie is going to win. Also, many people from Dr. Shirley's family are saying this is not exactly how the story went.
Having said all that, I don't think the Academy ever said what the requirements are to win an award...so if they want to give Green Book the award, it's up to them. They can choose however they want.
I never set out to learn anything significant from the movie, so I was just entertained. It didn't move me to tears or anything like that. It was just a feel good movie just like Instant Family. Also am a big fan of Ali

Unfortunately, Mahershala Ali had no power. He had to do what he was told.
