would def like to avoid the defense having to transition schemes again...wilks is a def no...the guy showed he wasnt willing to adapt his scheme to his players...

i'd seriously look at rex ryan but he could also cause headaches with his big mouth...
Vet options - Either one of the pagano's...chuck or john, both have 3-4 knowledge and play calling

Newbie options - Chris Hewitt Ravens secondary coach, has done a great job for the ravens and is a name on the rise, Mike Caldwell LB coach for Jets, has been under bowles and is another name on the rise.

My pick would be one of the newbie options, since nagy is close with bowles i'd ask him about caldwell and if he thinks he is ready to be a DC, if not I'd look into hewitt

sounds like the Bears may not even be considering Donatell.

Because we all are in a better to position than Pace and Nagy to decide if he would do a good job.

I didn’t say we should give him the job I’m questioning why the right hand man to the guy who just ran the #1 defense in the NFL isn’t even being considered for our own DC job

Again, the answer is obvious if this is accurate. Pace and Nagy don't think he'd be good at it. He wasn't good at it when he tried it before, and they've been working very closely with Donatell too.

Fair enough. I just hope they can find the right guy it would absolutely be soul crushing to watch this D go to waste by a bad DC

Agree, with the talent they have, though, it would have to be a pretty huge fail for the defense to significantly regress, although it's likely to regress a little no matter who is the DC, including Fangio.

Ryan is way too big of a loud mouth to be hired by the Bears....

John Pagano would be a solid option.

Rex Ryan is a big risk/high reward option.

A dark horse would be Mike Nolan. He was a guy I was touting to be DC if Fangio left with the Nagy signing. Has previous experience calling plays and has helped New Orleans the last two years field a solid defense as linebackers coach (one of the best run defences in the league this year).

It wouldn’t be the first time we squandered a defense after a DC left though.

Because there is already talk about him going with Vic Fangio, that is why not.

So because he is considering another job we shouldn’t consider him? What if we did that with Nagy because he was also considering the colts
