That's proving my point then.. Ricketts has already said the payroll is going down.. It was already reported at 125 approx around the end of the year..

So unless Silva/Zambrano goes.. It's gonna be really hard for us to get Dunn unless its suddenly approved to go higher.

I'd say its basing after the Lilly trade for last year to next year..

Which Levine said was around 125.. So probably go from there..

Just because it was at 125 at the end of the year, doesn't mean shit. You can't go from the end of the year, you have to go from the 144 from Opening Day. It can go down 10 million and be at 135 and we can still get Dunn and a RHRP

Lowering the payroll doesn't mean they aren't going to spend.

Playing good defense>having a big bat

That depends on the position. 1B is a slugger's place. We can have a nice defender, who hits for shit. If that's what you really want, great. But personally, I'd like to have a shot at winning. Dunn gives us 40 HRs. We need that big slugger to compliment Ramirez.

Just shut it CO, maybe if Castro sucked and Colvin hit like 2 homers we'd be getting Dunn. But with more young players waiting, I doubt we get Dunn. Hendry would want to, but I doubt Ricketts wants that.

It's been stated in a couple of places that Dunn is the Cubs top priority. If they have enough money, Dunn will be a Cub.

He's probably top priority of teams with 1B holes..

Soo we aren't the only one.. If that report is true.

WTF is Will Carroll? Out of all the super baseball insiders SI has, Will freaking Carroll is reporting this? C'mon. I just checked his SI profile and he's a fantasy football injury reporter. So, why is he talking baseball?

Anyways, Chicago Sun-Times twitter account said this shortly after Carroll's tweet-

Quade and Sandberg as mgr and bench coach on same staff? Don't believe every tweet you read.

Link- Twitter

I am not doubting that Quade will become the manager, but i doubt this guy has any inside info and i REALLY doubt Ryne Sandberg will be part of his staff. Not because CST denies it, but because it makes no sense why Sandberg, who is hoping to become manager, would accept a role to a guy he lost to. Makes no sense!

No, I will not shut anything. Castro and Colvin don't play 1st, though. We have no 1B prospects. At all. You're about as bad as Waldo.

Dunn said he wants to stay in the NL, so that takes out 14 teams.

Atlanta has some guy in their system, so they won't sign him. I think his name is like Brian Jordan.

Florida can't afford him

Washington sucks and he doesn't want to go back.

Phillies have Howard and the Mets have Davis.

Cards have Pujols, Reds have Votto, and the Brewers have Fielder.

The Pirates suck.

Houston could be a possibility, but they want Berkman back. IIRC, their financial situation sucks as well. We're talking worse than ours.

San Francisco could be a real option for him. Although, I don't know if they could afford it. Their pitching will cost them a lot to keep.

Dodgers seem to love Loney, plus they have the divorce going on.

Arizona sucks. He's already been a D-Back, doubt he'd go back. Although, I could be wrong.

Colorado has Helton, although this could be an option for him. He'd hit a boatload of home runs in Coors.

San Diego has this guy named Adrian. He's pretty good.

Another reason why this Carroll guy is full of it- looks like this rumor was started by MSNBC. He probably just saw it on tv and posted it.

Bruce Levine said this today-

Late last week, MSNBC reported that Quade would be hired as the Cubs’ new manager and that Sandberg would become his bench coach. A Cubs source said that that scenario had never been discussed, to the best of his knowledge.

Giants should just grab him.. They are at the point where they need a bat.. in a HUGE WAY..

A-Gon may not be in SD much longer..

Do you really think SD would get rid of A-Gon and then sign Dunn? Do you really think that?

The problem for the Giants would be the financial situation. Not so much for this year, but more next year. They have over 50 million committed to 3 players not named Tim Lincecum.

Fine, say that if you want. My point is that everyone has explained to you the payroll situation and you still think we're getting Dunn. They said they WON'T trade Z, and they have to pay at least half of Fuku's contract. Then after phenomenal season, Marms, Marsh, and Geo are due for huge raises, then Gorzo will be getting a raise, and I think they keep Guzman too.

And I also don't think they want to trade Byrd, so if Brett Jackson is up when he's expected to be, that moves Colvin to 1B, though you seem to think they'll bench him. But in reality, he isn't, or at least shouldn't, be benched again.

And fine, say I'm as bad as waldo. He seems to think that you are the dumbass now anyway.

You're reading into it a little bit too much on the SD side of things.. I'm just saying that AGon might be moved.. Nothing about a big FA replacing him.

We'll see how the Giants do this year.. If they lose in the LCS.. They might take a gamble.
