We are rebuilding. We have no one in the minors for 1B. No one. Dunn will put butts in the seats and sell a ton of jerseys. We can compete as early as next year. Dunn will be very useful for us then.

Not true, if you believe the rumblings that the Cubs are gonna try to work in Josh Vitters at 1B. He has had tons of problems at 3B and has played several games in the Arizona fall league at 1B.

I think we can be a .500 team next year if everyone produces like they should. AKA Ramirez not sucking and Big Z pitching like he is capable of. The division still isn't very good, so if we can hang in there until mid July, Jimbo can then go add some pieces for a late push. Is it likely we'll win the division next year? Probably not but I don't think you can say it's out of the question.

Vitters is still a couple of years away from helping us win ball games. He's been a major disappointment and who is to say he'll be a good 1B?

I never said he'll be good nor did i say he wasn't a disappointment. CO said we had nobody in the system to play 1B and i just pointed out that Vitters may be getting the switch since he had like 6 errors in 24 games in Tennessee last year.

How it will work out is anyones guess. However, any of these prospects are projects/question marks until they "make it". Vitters may have bust written all over him but to say Jackson or Lee WILL help this team in 2 years is also wrong. All these guys are projects.

You said next year, as in 2011. Who says anyone takes Silva and Grabow, and A-Ram's picking up his option. And 2nd years, not 3rd years. Lee won't be up in 2011.

Now if you said 2012, which apparently you meant based on this reply, then I still don't think they make the playoffs. You act as if all of this young talent will produce right away, but it probably won't, it will most likely take some time.

Dear Lord sorry for referring to the upcoming baseball season as this year. We have an outside shot at the play offs NEXT year and an even better shot the following year.

I really don't believe Vitters will amount to anything in the big leagues.

They are not projects, they are question marks. Project would mean they really need to work on something. Question marks means they are no given. They don't need to work on much, they have the tools, they just need to refine them. Do you see what I'm saying? Sorry if it's a little confusing there lol.

Yeah, i totally understand you. And i agree with you on Vitters, i was just pointing out the fact Cubs may switch his position. And to your point, Vitters has a TON of flaws, which is why he's constantly hitting road bumps in his development, but, he has many of the tools too, such as power.

Other power guys, such as Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Howard also struggled a lot in their early years. I still don't believe in Vitters, but what i am saying is Vitters could still have the greatest impact of any current prospect we have in the future. May not look so right now, but in 5 years looking back on it, we may have different opinions.

That's my whole point on the prospects.

I disagree, slightly. I think that Castro has the possibility to have the biggest impact. If everyone lives up their ceiling, I think he has the possibility of being a HOFer. However, I wouldn't put Vitters too far behind him.

My bad, I also think Castro may be special, and i should have listed him but i meant players who have not made it yet to the big show... guys who have had brief stints don't count, but Castro started much of the season and was with the team all year.

Peavy and Roberts were trades. Dunn is a FA. They are completely different.

Wow Dews, your offseasons must be pretty boring. It's something to talk about, isn't that what a message board is for? Fantasy or not, it's fun to talk about these things.

really doesnt matter if they were FA or trades, it is the point that cub fans were in fantasy land thinking they were going to get roberts and peavy and now cub fans are in fantasy land thinking they are going to get dunn.

Back to the topic- Those who want Quade as manager, does this make you weary at all? Appears Joe Girardi is the number one guy they want, with, Eric Wedge as number two. This, according to Wedge-

In any case, Wedge has been telling his confidantes that Jim Hendry was going to hire him to manage the Cubs if Joe Girardi wasn't available. But rather than wait to see what happened, he took the bird in hand: an offer from the Seattle Mariners.

It makes me weary that Jimbo is about to spend an unnecessary amount of money on an overrated manager :(

i agree with steve stone on this topic.

Girardi has made his money, won a ring as a player, won a ring as a manager....the only challenge left for him is a ring in his hometown where the team hasnt won in over 100 years. plus he has a family member that is ill, so I can see him managing the cubs, especially if the yanks do not win the ws this year.

thanks for getting back on topic!

Was their second choice. They have no shot at him now. Girardi is justn like Dunn, it won't happen.

I dont know. If the Yankees win the WS, I think there is a really good chance Girardi comes here.

If he didn't care he would have come out and said he isn't going to Chicago, but that hasn't happened.
