Too tempting not to click, I'm going to ruin it for you
Han Solo dies, Luke joins the darkside. Solo and Leia's kid is the next great hope. Mold into the plot of Ep IV and you have Ep VII
Your own damn fault. But guess what, movies have been such shit lately anyways, that even a rehash like this is going to be your only option for something halfway decent from pop-culture for 5 years, unless you're a kid and then everything still seems awesome to you.
I know, I'm a cynical bastard.

But wait, this is a troll forum, right?

Had a friend go see it and he said he was underwhelmed. Felt it was basically a remake of the original.

Yeah most people I know that saw it said that it was basically the original Star Wars with new characters playing the same roles. Although that may not be a bad thing and frankly most movies rehash old themes anyways.

I don't even see how it being a rehash of the originals is all that bad a thing considering that's what got people hooked in the first place. Idk...I think it has potential.

If Sylvester Stallone can do it 10 times, why can't Disney?

Enjoying reading all of the butthurt nerd posts about Star Wars because some of the plot points seem unrealistic. It's science "fiction," you nerds. Suddenly, all these fans are now Neil deGrasse Tyson.

"Da big planet's lazurrr can't travel dat fast. JJ didn't study up on dat physics."
George Lucas did?

I think a lot of people are upset with the portrayal of Luke after ROTJ. I am not upset with the portrayal but the movie sure ends on a cliff hanger with a ton of unanswered questions. Sucks I have to wait two years to get answers! Agree, has lots of potential.

When I critique films in this genre, I tend to leave the "science" in the science fiction at the door and suspend my disbelief.
I look more at the writing, directing choices, editing and cinematography, since I'm familiar with the process on how films are made.

Films like this always bring out the worst kind of nerds. The ones that will stab you with a rusty protractor if they knew how to get out of their parent's basement to borrow their friend's powder blue 1994 Honda Civic.

Yeah I guess I can see that, but to me that just opens up a lot more room for story in the next movie to answer some of those. I hated the cliffhanger, but I can see why they did it that way.

Basically they have a lot of stuff they can explore with the next couple movies that I am actually curious to know about so I'm cool with all that stuff.

Probably has to do with the fact your friend doesn't realize the entire point of the Star Wars movies is to draw parallels between the past and the present. Many themes and plot lines are supposed to be repeated albeit with different characters under different circumstances.

Loved it. 5/5. Worthy sequel to the original three.

Was worried after finding out the Starkiller (Suncrusher??) might be just another Death Star. This faded quickly. Plot similarities to Ep.IV did not detract from the movie unless you have the attention span of a gnat. Hollywood has crapped out many a remake in the past few years, but this is not one of them.

Was very tired for last nights showing. Will be viewing again Saturday to take in more. Planning on giving John William's score a good listen when it comes in the mail. So far nothing of the OST from this film beats the epic sound of Empire Strikes Back, which is one of my few criticisms. In fact, I had trouble pin-pointing any part of the score that connected on an emotional level.

Overall, this film ranks right up there with ANH and ESB, and left the fans wanting more. Disney did it right, and put one of their newest and largest cash-cows on the right track.

My first showing was in 3D and now I want to view it in standard IMAX. BTW that new Arclight cinema on Clybourn was nice. It had been a long time since I was in that area and was really surprised to see how much of a yuppie shopping district its become. An earshot away from the former Cabrini-Green housing. That area has changed big time.

I have a friend that has never seen any that wants to see it. I told him I give it a 9.27. I said it paid homage to the first 3 (4-6) films without feeling cheesy. Also told him he could enjoy it without watching them but he should. The movie exceeded my expectations.

Just finishing watching it and it was a good movie and certainly wipes the bad taste out of my mouth from the previous movies. A bit too melodramatic and cheesy in some places for me so I would say a 7 out of 10 for me.
