Muskat's Twitter...

Twitter

Dempster 1, Garza 2, 3&4=?, Maholm 5

That's different.

Does it really matter who takes the ball game 1 of the year versus game 2? Dempster and Garza will end up with the same number of starts by the end of the year if they each stay healthy.

Sure it does. One of them might be slightly better able to beat the Nationals and Stephen Strasburg :D

I think with the advent of wild card baseball, and the end of last season, every game does matter until a team is eliminated. I still want the Cubs to put their best 9 out there for opening day.

You still need to win 84+ games to get that second wild-card  I admire your optimism though.

But the point is that it is highly unlikely that Garza is going to start any less than Dempster this season even if Dempster starts the year as the opening day starter. With off days, the all-star break, and injuries the rotation is going to be shuffled many times through the course of the year.

Aka DL time.

Yeah a stint on the 15 day DL seems all but assured to delay having to make a decision about sending him down. Now the question becomes do they 60 day DL him to open a 40 man roster spot or not.

Wells may be traded... and may not make 'pen.

So ... Wood, Marmol, Dolis, Russell, Coleman, another lefty and the most likely right now Castillo.

Where's that leave Wells?

I am guessing that this is Sveum not tipping his hand about the outcome for the last rotation spot. Shark not getting the spot seems unlikely, and it would seem to be an overreaction to his first poor start of the spring.
