The Jeff Samardzija experiment is going to be very interesting.

Honestly that might be the most important question this year because there is a big difference in the future if Shark is a number 2/3 or a 4/5 or a bullpen arm.

Or he could suck and they just wasted $2MM or whatever they paid him. But I'm hoping he doesn't suck and that the scouts were right.

I can't believe the game-tying run scored on a balk. FAIL.

We've seen him succeed in a bullpen role. I think it is pretty safe to say that he is at worst a cost controlled middle reliever for the next several years. Of course injury could strike anyone down, but the real question is if he is better than that and by how much.

I think "wasting" $2M on him is much better than overspending in free agency.

Jeff Samardzija = 6 innings of shutout ball, tons of groundouts. Not bad.

Too bad his team is also getting shut out.

Like I said he might be the most important player we get to watch from day 1. If he can be a middle of the rotation to top of the rotation starter we get a lot closer to being relevant again.

Maholm is #5 because of prior injury. Bullpen not set yet but that seems reasonable. Bench just confirmed although I think Baker and Johnson still have a couple stragglers to deal with (they're in no real danger though).

Only real surprise was Wells being left off the roster and that they saw enough of Camp to give him a spot. Iowa should have a pretty good year with the pitching it has and Jackson/Rizzo.

I'd probably rather see the IA Cubs instead of the Chicago Cubs

Blake DeWitt in RF.

Even in a practice game, does not compute.

Well I was right about Wells being sent to Iowa. I had gotten talked out of it by everyone else, but as usual teams like to keep as many guys as possible. Sending Wells down allows the Cubs to keep another guy that doesn't have options or Rule 5 pick Castillo.
