Crazy start to this game. Good luck scoring 4 goals against Quick. Slim to none on that one.

While that was definitely the right call, I still think players receiving the hit have to do a better job of taking those hits.
Dude had his back to the hitter. How the hell is he supposed to do a better job taking that hit?

I believe that he should have never put himself in that position. I'm sure he felt the pressure and should have done better, same with Gionta right before.

I mean, you could try to brace yourself if you're playing the puck off the boards, but you can't always do that. The boarding penalty is designed to help protect the defenseless player when he isn't in the best position to protect himself. You can't just slam into a guy like that.

Just my opinion that he could have done more and put himself in a much better position. Too many players in the "new" NHL aren't protecting themselves like try should and I truly believe this is a factor in the increase of boarding/checking from behind. Same with the hit on Gionta and same goes for Shaw and Kruger on the Blackhawks.

Also, it is only going to get worse. USA hockey, at the youth level, made a very poor decision in pushing the age of checking further back. Many coaches at the youth level were amazed by this decision and think it will only backfire because these kids will not know how to take a hit, which we spend more time on than giving a hit. Also, in tournaments, Canada teams start checking at a younger age and that will be bad news for USA players.

How was he supposed to take that hit? He had all of two seconds to get to the puck and play it to his teammate before he got steamrolled. The guy made no attempt to play the puck and had every intention of destroying the player. I'm sorry, but there's very little you can do against that kind of malicious hit.

What!?!?

He is playing the puck, he doesnt have time to turn around and look and make sure he isnt going to get destroyed by a dirty hit. That same play happens so many times in the game and once in a while another player will board, it happens, but he couldnt just turn around and protect himself when he was going for the puck assuming the defender would be doing the same, not lambasting him into the boards.

He glances real quickly and sees the pressure. I just think he needs to protect himself in that position. Also, a lot of dmen look in the reflection in the glass to see the pressure.

As I said, definitely the right call I just think Scud could have done better there.

I think its a very gray area though. the amount of time from look to brace is so slim.

Would love to see Brown get another one at this point.

He plays hockey the way it should be. Being an American is a nice bonus.
