So far 8 people say he will have the best fielding year of his career by a pretty decent margain.

3 people make predictions in line with his career averages.

Nah, not a bunch of fanboys or anything around here.

But after all we do have a couple people trying to argue that $16M is more than $36M on another thread so nothing really should surprise anyone.

Because dedicating a thread to ripping on one of those players over the course of the year again is fanboying.

Or people could just assume that a 24-year-old still has room to improve. But let's follow your narrative where nothing will ever improve if it's related to the Cubs. That seems to be what drums up the most insightful conversation on the board.

It is not a stretch to think he improves with age. He went from 30 to 22. 8 improvement. 22 to 16 is a 6 improvement.

If he stays around 20 I would consider trading him and let Baez take over. At least with him you are getting power.

He never had 30 errors in a season.

He has gone 27, 29, 27, 22.

He improved 5.

Over 25 who cares to be honest.

But fine. a 5 improvement. Still if he is hovering around 20-25 then you are not losing much in a glove and adding power at SS with Baez.

It works both ways. I see a fielder who has improved his fielding percentage every year, but I'm ridiculous if I think the trend continues. Lol

Sent from my phone...in my pocket...with my mind.

Is that how it works? Because there is a trend, it continues? He has a trend of hitting poorly, does that continue? He is a mediocre fielder at best.

I would gamble all day long that he stands to improve on his hitting versus his fielding.

He sure did improve at the plate last year didn't he?

And that's relevant to the fact that he improved in the field how.....?

It is relevant because you said at age 24 and at the stage of his career he is at he has room to improve.

He also has room to regress.

But you only wish to look at the IF's that are positive and pretend there are no IF's that could be negative.

I never said that the trend has to continue, I'm just hopeful it does. You're welcome to think whatever you want.

The fact that you and patg are bringing his batting into the fielding argument to defend your point is ridiculous. Just say you think he'll regress and move on.

the batting was only brought in to show the assumption that a 24 year old player will improve is not always true.

We stated our opinions that is not very likely to see such a huge improvement that most of the fanboys predict, only the fanboys threw temper tantrums.

Perhaps the fanboys should move on as well.

Getting Luke's after I get off the train and then watching the game in class. Probably miss the 1st inning and hope my laptop lasts long enough for the whole game.

Changing the subject from fielding to hitting because JosMin made a good point? LOL.

I bet you thought Castro was a top 5 shortstop after his first two seasons.

Since you want to talk hitting, didn't Castro have the most hits combined for 2011 and 2012? Why is it okay for you to say "Castro has been a league leader in errors, so he will stay that way" but then when someone brings up him as a hitter for 2010-12 they are an idiot? Three out of Castro's first four seasons in the MLB his average was what, .295ish?

Castro came up at the age of 20 and is only 24 right now. Not even close to his prime age. Aren't the prime years 27-30 or something like that?

One more thing, didn't Javier Baez lead the minor leagues in errors last year? Won't his errors double in the MLB!?!? There is no way he can improve!?!?!?

patg006 the "realist" LOL
