Ok, I was wrong about Dunn being acquired via trade, slip of the tongue. I remember all the rumors about the Sox trying to trade for him during the season, guess I got my wires crossed.

Anyway, I was going to post my rants about the Dunn signing from the ESPN board back in 2010, but the messages only go back to August, 2011. Funny thing I did find was this: http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/forum/_/name/chw/chicago-white-sox#!/topic/1312416660-106-631 :soxtroll:

@jwelge96: @ThomasNyy456789 Japanese paper reporting Yanks, Dodgers, Cubs, White Sox, DBacks all have submitted offers.

Found this on twitter. Not sure how accurate

@BerniePleskoff: Formal offers for Masahiro Tanaka were submitted by #Yankees, #Dodgers, #Dbacks, #WhiteSox and #Cubs. Surprise for me-no #BlueJays.

@backseatslugger: According to @mlbtraderumors - Tanaka has offers from @Yankees, @Dbacks, @Dodgers, @Cubs & @whitesox - 6 years, $120 million range

Nikkan: Clubs Submit Formal Tanaka Offers
By Aaron Steen [January 18 at 7:06pm CST]
Clubs angling to sign Masahiro Tanaka made formal offers by Jan. 16, Nikkan Sports reports (Japanese link). The list of teams includes the Yankees, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, White Sox and Cubs, with nearly all clubs putting together offers worth more than $100MM over six years.

The Diamondbacks have made no secret of their pursuit of Tanaka this winter, and according to Nikkan, they've offered him a deal for six years and $120MM. Such a contract would be the largest in Diamondbacks history by a wide margin. "Like other teams, we're very interested," CEO Derrick Hall was quoted as saying at a recent meeting of MLB owners. "We want to win this competition." Owner Ken Kendrick also reportedly met with Tanaka directly during his recent tour of clubs in the U.S.

The Dodgers and Yankees are believed to have made equivalent offers, according to Nikkan, while comments by Angels owner Arte Moreno suggest that the team would have trouble fitting Tanaka into its budget. Overall, we appear to be nearing the stage in negotiations where the only step remaining is Tanaka's actual decision.

This is what the Sox get for $56 MILLION...

2011: .159 BA
2012: .204 BA
2013: .219 BA

So not $16 million? You were wrong on the trade, wrong on his production pre White Sox, wrong on his salary. Hard to believe on a defunct message board you had said he'd be bad as a Sox.

Not calling you anything, just pointing out the facts.

LOL at evaluating Dunn like this. Sure, Dunn has been a disappointment, but it isn't because he batted around .200 his three years here.

2012 was actually pretty solid, okay OBP, lead the league in walks, 41 HR.

For all we know. The cubs low balled. Him and are just getting it out there that they're going all out. Just let it play out. All I know is Tanakas reps want it private but the the Cubs are anything but that right now.

See...the so called favorites are long shots
Despite having made an offer to Masahiro Tanaka, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports the team is still a "long shot" to sign the right-hander.
The Cubs are one of five teams that made offers to Tanaka on January 16, but Wittenmyer cites multiple sources that say Chicago probably won't land him. Tanaka's wife is said to prefer to be on the West Coast -- the Dodgers are one of the teams in on the 25-year-old -- and the other teams in play have enjoyed success more recently than the Cubs. One thing the Cubs do have is money, and ESPN's Jayson Stark reported earlier this month that they were "ready to blow away the field" with an offer.

Ok I'm assuming some things when I communicate with other fans on a White Sox message forum that I probably should not. People should know there is a dramatic difference between the overall quality and caliber of pitching in the NL and AL. It doesn't take a whole lot of brains or knowledge to look at Dunn's weaknesses based on his hitting statistics and see that the AL, where the vast majority of power pitchers reside, would not be a good fit for him. You cannot get by with a garbage fastball in the AL because of the DH position. Pitchers in the AL have better stuff, and the stats prove it.

Now, if Dunn is striking out over 200 times a year in the NL, with a BA somewhere around .230ish, what would be the most logical conclusion about Dunn's ability to help your AL ballclub for a $56 MILLION dollar contract? If you're a Dunn fan, I can understand why you wouldn't admit he is lousy, but atleast be honest with yourself.

As far as what you want to believe about me expressing these same opinions when the Sox signed him, the evidence has been archived and stored forever on some server. Remember this is the internet. I tried to dig it up for you, but the farthest I could go back is 2011. But does it really matter? Is it key to you understanding my point, or are you just pissed that I'm talking shit about the big Donkey? Fans are called homers because they lack integrity and objectivity. Looks like the shoe fits...

So you're telling me he's worth $15 MILLION per year? If so you're an idiot. The rest of the MLB would concur.

I've been following this team since grade school. They are ALWAYS a longshot to sign players other teams want and can afford. When have the Sox ever outbid anybody for an elite player? Albert Bell? I don't blame the organization, I blame a prejudiced national media and the league. It all goes back to the "Black Sox" scandal. Holding grudges is a proud tradition among baseball writers. They will never forgive or forget.
