I never understand the fascination with thinking that says goalies need to be rested.
If there is logic to it then why not let Toews have a night off because surely he must be exhausted from all those games he plays. Certainly Seabs is deserving then as well. Hell, Keith has been logging some massive minutes so by all means let him have a night off....
Just sayin'
yahI understand what you are saying too. I tend to lean towards RK's side of the argument about goalies. THe pressure is different and I think most goalies are mentally very hard on themselves. Other than that for the little time I have played goal in hockey I can't see how these guys don't start feeling the pains of the physical positions they keep themselves in after playing so many games. Esp butterfly style goalies..and big ones like Cory. It's gotta take its toll on the knees and back and groin.
I don't know though I am just speculating on that one. Maybe Ton or other guys who play goal constantly could shed more light.
Plus. What happens if Cory were to get hurt? I don't think it's good having a back up sit on the bench as much as Turco has been. I know he had more games at the start of the season but the last few months he has seen very little ice. We have seen what that does to goalies like Luongo/Kipper/Nabakov in the past. They burn out.
But with the mental part of the argument. Cory seems to be pretty cool and level headed and a highly focused individual. I am not sure if I have actually seen him "rattled" this season after allowing a poor goal. He has had bad games of course..every NHL goalie has them. But I don't think those games were a result of broken concentration.
Actually an interesting topic Icehog.
