Soler may be a better hitter than Bryant. Why would they use Soler to protect him?

Soler is going to be their best overall prospect. Not saying Bryant won't be good.

Love the optimism and if by shock the world you mean win the whole fucking thing, I'd love nothing more than for you to be right. Definitely not outside the realm of possibility but I wouldn't bet on it. If we finish above .500 I'm going to be content. Make a serious playoff push and I'll be happy. Play in the postseason and I'll be absolutely ecstatic! Over the next few years, I'm just hoping for a nice upward trajectory. Can't be disappointed with consistent improvement.

Human beings sometimes show emotion. Not every baseball fan is a stat-bot :)

Absolutely. Sometimes though we all need the stats and a little logic to slow our roll or put things in perspective. The other day on antoher site I had a guy get all over me for insisting before the season that Washington looked to be a prohibitive World Series favorite and also picking the Royals to miss the playoffs. After their respective starts he called me arrogant and how nobody should ever make picks like that. First of all we're a little over a week in and nothing is sue yet and second I know talent and stats well enough to make predictions. Could I be wrong? Absolutely, but it doesn't make me less confidence in what in essence are educated guesses.

When it comes to the Cubs I'm so emotionally invested after being a fan for 47 years that I need the stats and the logic to keep me from going full meatball. I'm really excited watching these kids play. It feels different, it looks different and there are some tangible reasons for that. There are also tangible reasons as to why the Cubs are still at best the third most talented team in the Division. Young players slump more often than veterans and Kris Bryant has yet to have a single AB. I need to keep telling myself this or the next thing you know I'll be predicting playoffs and we can't be having that can we? ;)

The key thing is that this team is already seeing adversity -- Ramirez is having an MRI, things look rough. LaStella and Grimm are already on the DL. Jon Lester clearly isn't 100% and has put together two subar performances.

And yet, the team has stayed the course through the first 10 days of the season and has positioned themselves to continue grinding out games during this glut of games against division opponents. If we can get through this first month at .500, that'll position us well as Bryant gets called up and Maddon figures out how to insert him into the lineup. I feel like Edwin Jackson will get more looks in the bullpen. The need for pitching will probably push Bryant's debut back a little bit... but there's also a need at third with LaStella on the DL and Olt injured.

Again -- the season is young. The team has plenty of time to figure things out.

I'd like to see the Cubs do this. Usually the power hitters are 3-5 and #2 is usually a contact hitter:

1. Dexter Fowler
2. Starlin Castro
3. Anthony Rizzo
4. Jorge Soler
5. Mike Olt
6. Miguel Montero
7. Chris Coghlan/Matt Szczur
8. Arismendy Alcantara/Tommy La Stella
9. Pitcher

I believe Maddon is onto something with Soler or Rizzo hitting #2.

Ideal after Bryant promotes:

Fowler .235/.297/.500
Soler .310/.382/.586
Rizzo .240/.429/.360
Bryant N/A
Coghlan .304/.385/.696
Castro .323/.364/.452
Montero .111/.217/.167
Pitcher
Alcantara .091/.259/.091

Looking at the line up Alcantara needs to adjust. .259 OBA is counter productive to generating runs. Montero is in the same boad but to a lesser degree with how the line up is constructed. Castro is fine hitting #6 and is seems to be the ideal place to keep him. His stats are good across the board and his BA pays off with the stronger OBA types ahead of him.

To be honest for the talent on this team this works better vs plugging Castro #2. He has never really been a strong OBA type.

Agree wholeheartedly just like to poke at both sides every now and then to keep everybody honest!

Its 8 games in of a 162 game season. Not every fan needs to go overboard.

Stat bot comment was definitely 100% a joke and nothing more. I'm somebody who tends to see things both ways but math hurts my brain so I depend on people like yourself to do the crunching for me. Growing up I learned a lot about baseball from my brother who loved to break down stats and analyze the game. That guy would stay up all night with his face dangerously close to the computer just for the junior high team he coached. I definitely respect the analytics nuts but what fun would the game be without getting emotional or even sometimes over emotional?

On top of being a Cubs fan, I'm an Iowa State alumni so I've suffered plenty and know the importance of having realistic expectations. Sometimes the excitement and love of the game/my team get the best of me though but I always manage to survive and come back next season!

This.

:fap::fap::fap::fap:

 Here we are 61 games into the season and the Cubs have the the 6th best winning % in the MLB. LOL at the CCS experts.

And on a sidenote: LOLOL at Crys, the Sox Mod who banned me for life from the Sox forum cuz he couldn't handle the truth with me pointing out the Cubs were the better team then the Sox in the crosstown beatdown thread.

What's the matter Crys .... can't handle the truth? What's the Sox record again?:rofl:

lol it's still too early to shock the world but I'm not gonna get mad at a gloating Cubs fan

And Crys may have been the one who banned you, I'm not sure, but he doesn't care about the Cubs or Sox that much.

I'm not really gloating, the Cubs are doing just about what I expected. I expect them to get better yet as they get more experience. It was the couple years of enduring the idiot Sox fans, and their insults of the Cubs that makes me want to say something.

I'd say Theo's doing pretty well... just like he said he would. The Cubs haven't even scratched the surface of what they can be, and they are already a success. And the renovation, which all the Sox idiots were talking about has turned out pretty well as well.

And the Sox aren't exactly lighting the world on fire like they were supposedly supposed to, compared to the Cubs especially. Still rooting for the Sox ... just LOL'ing at some of the Sox fans.

And yes, Crys told me he banned me from the Sox forum....why, who the **** knows????

You're seriously going to brag about the team's record a little over halfway through June, not even at the all star break?

Go on right ahead, cupcake. This team has improved and still has struggles, but have pleasantly surprised me thus far. Lets see how the young kids handle the "dog days" of July and August.

Though I agree on Crys. He's been fast to ban me too. Think he and Jim Johnson are butt buddies, must not have liked when I kept calling him an idiot.

True. They cannot get Ramirez, Soler, and La Stella back on the team quick enough to spell these starters and relievers and still give themselves a chance to win every night.

I know people might be laughing at La Stella, but this guy, even though he might be a utility guy is going to be welcomed onto this club IMO. If nothing else, it strengthens the bench. I like his OBP, and you can never have too much of that.

The Cubs also need to get a veteran rental TOR guy to get them through the year and get Wada out of the rotation and into the pen.

I can live with Hendricks, or if Turner adjusts enough to contribute as a number 4 or 5, but you have to have that strong 4 at least to put winning streams together.

They have had one thus far, and are going to need to string some extended streaks to make the Central a real race.

FWIW, Zobrist wouldn't be a bad pick up either as he can play various positions. Again, it goes back to the OBP thing, and high OBP guys lead to more runs across the board.

LOL @ you. As usual, you and your immature clickies don't even get what that comment was about, and that it was in response to someone else's ridiculous comment. :smh:
