Why would he wait til he was 38 years old (guess) to go to Japan? He should have done this a while ago.

33 but close lol.... IDK, maybe to get a chance for the Cubs and/or to try his best to stay in US to play with a major league team.

Phil Rogers said, if and when Pena is trade, Brian LaHair will be their 1B hahaha...I know he's not really a 1B but I'd rather have Colvin at 1B.

Got to love the stellar writing for the Tribune about baseball. Phil Rogers wants a AAAA roster filler guy to hold down 1B for the rest of the season. Paul Sullivan thinks that the youth movement is on hold because Blake Dewitt is getting playing time over Lou Montanez.

It was an article writing a while back, but I found it funny because he complained that Blake Dewitt (age 25) was getting at bats stalling the youth movement. And that youth movement couldn't get started with Brad Synder (age 29) and Lou Montanez (age 30) glued to the end of the bench.

I don't want Jackson up here til there is a permanent spot available for him which means trading one of the 3 big salary OFs. Moving him up to AAA to get some time adjusting, and when a trade finally comes down to move 1, or more, OF then Jackson can come up.

Oh yeah for sure. If Jackson comes up, he plays. If he sits on the bench, I'll go down to Wrigley and ***** at JH and Quade lol.

I won't lie I want to see LaHair up here if Pena goes. I don't expect much but I still want to see what he can do. He has never really been given a shot other than 150 PA back in 2008.

I am more just curious than anything.

Hahaha, thanks. He's 28 and I would rather have Vitters playing 1B over him.

Depends on when Pena is moved. I dont really think Vitters is ready yet. No reason to rush him up, he isn't even 22 yet.

Maybe September I would give Vitters a shot but probably not before then.

We can debate the Vitters thing later, but have to continue to laugh at Phil Rogers. This is what he wrote about Cubs that could be traded:
I asked a good baseball guy who the Cubs have that would appeal to a contender, and Ramirez was the first name on his list. He’s hitting again, and outside the AL East there’s a shortage of productive third basemen. The guy who homered twice and played a solid third on Monday could help the Cardinals and Brewers, along with the Mariners and Angels. Ramirez would be tricky to deal because he has a full no-trade, which could cause him to want a team dealing for him to guarantee his club option for 2012.

Before this Rogers was quoting a source saying that Aramis Ramirez is the most attractive player the Cubs have to deal. The thing I want to draw everyone's attention to is the last line in bold.

Now the 5 seconds it took me to google Cot's baseball contracts got me this information:
2012 option becomes guaranteed if Ramirez:
wins one MVP in 2007-11, or

places 2nd or 3rd in MVP vote twice in 2007-11, or

wins LCS MVP once in 2007-11, or
is an All Star 3 times in 2007-11, or
is traded & Ramirez exercises 2011 option

Teams don't have to promise Ramirez his option because contractual it becomes guaranteed if he is traded. Seriously do they not do research before they write this stuff?

Yeah its kind of amazing that a writer doesn't know that. I thought that was pretty common knowledge and a reason I think Aramis will be really tough to trade unless they rework the contract and gets like a 4 or 5 million dollar buyout.

Bob Holtzman just said no one should be untradeable, including Starlin Castro.

It'd be Special person to trade Starlin Castro, or Brett Jackson for that matter. To rebuild, you don't trade your best young players.

Dumb ASS!

Let's think about this for a sec. Castro and Jackson are the only 2 position players I hear of coming up. Say if you trade Castro you get 5 proven MLB players or prospects, 1 of which is an all-star. The other 4 are fringe all-stars or worse. I wouldn't hold Castro on a pedistole either.

That wouldn't happen though, and would make the rebuilding take longer if it was prospects for our best young player. Then we'd need to develop a new Castro, which doesn't happen too often.
