I think it is a legitimate question to ask who, or what as has been hinted in several places in the media, has limited major league payroll the previous seasons. The answer to that question should certainly reflect in our analysis of the job of the front office. I am also not certain that we will ever have the complete truth on that matter.

I doubt Epstein and Hoyer are deciding on their own to keep payroll down and not go out and sign higher caliber players. the decision of where they need to keep payroll ultimately comes from ownership. .

Uhhmm! If Epstein took a job that he didn't discuss payroll flexibility prior to inking his contract, also bringing Hoyer and McLeod on board knowing he would have extremely limited funds to build a winner, than he has got to be the stupidest man on the planet.

I am sure it was probably Rickett's decision to eat most of Soriano's contract and get a minor leaguer in return. I see Soriano jersey's in the stands. I have yet to see any Corey Black jerseys.

There is 18 million well spent.

I can't think of any posters who are placing the blame entirely on Epstein and Hoyer. Most who are unhappy with the worst two season stretch in team history also place blame on Ricketts as well. Clearly some choose to ignore that.

But to say that Epstein and Hoyer have produced the best results regardless of what restrictions have been placed on them is totally ignorant.

They have made more mistakes than successes.

There is enough bad going on for everyone to take a share of the blame.

ummmm.. couldn't it be possible that after winning 2 champioships in Boston he took on the challenge of breaking down what wasn't working in Chicago to rebuild it fron the bottom up with the idea of once a couple of these kids establish themselves on the major league roster along with the ones that already there that he will then have that payroll flexibility to add whomever he needs..
he just starting year 3 of this process. I think it would be safe to say that by yr 5 his last yr. of current contract that this team from minors to majors is going to be in pretty good shape..
no doubt his first 5 yr contract was to be spent breaking fown and rebuild.. his next 5 yr contract will be to get them to championship level. .

Sure! I bet you will also see Cashman take on the Marlins job when he leaves the Yankees. It will be solely for the challenge.

Funny how after the disastrous first offseason the fapfest said it was too soon to complain, just wait till year 2-3 and then you will see how great things will be.

Now entering season three, the major league team is still a disaster but now the fapfest says to wait till season 5 and then you will see how great things will be.

Then when it is still sucking in season 5 because some of the prospects busted, it will be wait until season 10 and then you will see how great things will be.

Uh oh! Doesn't that violate the "wait till next year" mantra the Cubs fan base has been using for years?

Eh maybe for a week. Been kinda busy. Will remain kinda busy.

I still think you have one of the best "public" minds on the sport out there. And when I say "public" I mean you'll mix it up with anyone.

Anyone read the BR article on potential trades? Has shark going to the Yanks for Sanchez, Hensley, and two others I believe. Think it would get the deal done?
