What's Slovak? Is that Russian?
Slovak is Slovak. Specifically from Slovakia. Slovakia is a Small country in central europe that is most known for beautiful women and ice hockey. Add in great beer and you have the trifecta.
Seriously, for a breif history: after the celts came and went from the area in the 5th century, the area was settled by the western slavs which became ethnically distinct from the Moravians, Czechs, and Poles. Through the middle ages they had a few kingdoms in the area (Empire of Samo, Principality of Nitira), before being absorbed into the Hungarian, and later Austrio/Hungarian empire. Wth the dissolution of the Austrio/hungarian empire, the 1st Czechoslovak state emerged. After Germany took over the Czech portion of the Czechoslovak state (specifically Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia), the Slovaks found themselves as a puppet state of the Nazi regime. WWII came and went and Czechoslovakia came around again as a warsaw pact nation. There was a failed democratic uprising in the 60's, and the country stayed commmunist until the Velvet Revolution when the country became democratic. In 1993, The Czech Republic and Slovakia split amicably in the "Velvet Divorce", and Slovakia became an EU member in 2004.
Having been there, the country is gorgeous. The economy is decent, and the people are fairly friendly. Ice Hockey is one of their biggest sports. Some of the best Slovaks to play ice hockey are Stan Mikita, Peter Stastny, Peter Bondra, Marain Hossa, Pavol Demita, and Miroslav Šatan. And of course, you can add Tomas Kocpecy to the list of Slovak players
