You have to give the older generations a break though when it comes to remembering new names of countries and each countries politcal stance....the eastern european and adriatic regions have been very fluid in the renaming of countires and regions for 30 years now.

Remembering the names is not that big of a beef unless they just want to be willfully ignorant. It's just the misconceptions that boggle the mind.

But in all fairness, there are a few older generation Slovaks I've been introduced to that share many gross misconceptions about America and Americans in general that are just as mindboggling.

Further proof that your everyday average people around the world are really quite the same

Jako: Well...you said Czechoslovak, so I encluded the 3 Czech lineages there. Slovak is separate.

Plus, Jaroslav Spacek (another ex hawk) is Czech

I always wanted a Spacek sweater, as an homage to my roots.

For the love of Savard. We have two Slovak hawks. They had video of their cup days in SLOVAKIA, Slovakia nearly took the bronze in hockey in the olympics. It not only called into question his world knowledge but his fandom of the hawks and hockey in general, when you don't even know what country your players come from.

No offense Fluffle, actually maybe a little, but when you said you didn't know what a slovak was and we have slovak players on the hawks, it really calls your level of intelligence and knowledge of the world into question.

Thats like saying whats a Philipino? Um maybe someone from the Phillipines?

Maybe its just me, but I think everyone should have an idea of most of the countries in the world and where they are located.

I heard the term Slovakian but haven't heard anyone referred to as being Slovak before. And yes I'm well aware of Kopecky and Hossa playing for Slovakia in the Olympics. Sorry that you're offended by the question. I didn't know so I asked. Now I know what Slovak means.

Well, if you take anything away from this, remember that "Slovak" is the correct term in english. "Slovakian" is kinda like calling us "Americanese" or, say, TCD "Canadish".
