bahahaha. No no i mean fad is as it's on ESPN now and people are joining this for an obscene price, as well as breaking their backs in the process. If people enjoy joining cliques to workout then more to em. But it really is a creepy cult.

And why do you guys have friggin numbers on your arms or whatever goofy shit I've seen? It's just as annoying as people in the Ironman. That's some tough shit-- but I can't tell you how many peope who do it have their car full of letting you know they do ironman. Bumper stickers, window stickers, license plate holders,. I've also literally seen a woman and man have tattoos of their ironman slogan.

Literally, you are paying nearly $100(my town it's close to that) to climb a rope, bang a tire, flip a tire, use gymastic rings, do the most obscene pull-ups ever, carry a keg across the parking lot and wear hilarious looking socks.

**** it. I wanna join.

Please tell me you wear the socks, too. Headband? Chants at the end of a session??!? Yesssssss

Once again. Losing your mind about the marketing or hype doesn't mean the exercises aren't effective. All you seem to be mad about is that it's really really popular right now. And that it has been for the last several years, and for the foreseeable future...

I've seen all of the dumb shit you are talking about in every gym I've been a member of too. Maybe gym memberships are a fad too? Pretentious bullshit isn't limited to fads, even very established activities have their fans that take themselves waaaaay too seriously

I've said it before but I should probably say it again. I don't have a crossfit membership but I do use some of the routines every once in a while.

God. You are a fucking idiot. Please attempt to backup your claims on CrossFit's injury rates so I can destroy your elementary argument.

Climb a rope, bang a tire, use rings, kipping pullups, and carrying a keg? How about you fucking do some googling and try to understand what CrossFit actually includes.

I work out in my fucking garage, by myself. Is that cliquish enough for you? I am very interested in what type of "athlete" you are.

I take it you are a surfer as well. You of all people should know that form is key...or else you are fish food!

I'm sure everybody that knows how to do a pullup knows that the crossfit style is totally incorrect form and extremely dangerous. Why do you need data to back up this simple truth. A few of my friends are doctors and I have also been a personal trainer and know quite a few others and they have seen a lot of surgeries due to improper form. Those pullups....or lack thereof definitely qualify. If I ever shread a rotator, I will be proud to say it was on weighted pullups with correct form

To determine whether its even worth it to debate you on the topic of fitness or if you are some Smith machine/lateral dumbbell raise warrior that can't move shit.

Am I to believe that there is something wrong with lateral dumbbell raises? Please enlighten me because those are some bad ass exercises.

You are definitely right about the fact that there are always the lost boys in the gym doing weird crazy lifts with horrible form. I feel bad that they never received proper training sessions. I usually give them some friendly advice on proper form in the nicest way I can. However there are a lot of athletes and regular lifters that have great form and exercises...and it shows. Crossfit seems to not have anyone that practices safe lifting/practices, and that is the difference. To each his own. Athletes supplement their sport with lifting. I believe that is the best way for variety and success.

My request for data is related to CrossFit as a whole not kipping pullups individually. I believe kipping pullups are safe to perform (although I don't personally do them unless I am doing something like Murph on Memorial Day once in a blue moon) within proper constraints. People get into trouble with kipping pullups when they don't have properly developed (strong) shoulders or do hundreds of them at a time. A main problem that CF has is the fact that their corporate HQ is run by a bunch of stubborn fucktards and whatever idiot posts ther mainsite WOD's does so, seemingly, at random so there are times when the programming is ridiculous. If anyone is dumb enough to follow CrossFit.com instead of a specific gym's programming then they are an idiot. Regarding the need for data, no offense, but I would rather see a peer reviewed study than listen to a dude on some Chicago sports message board that knows a few doctors that have seen injuries without any further context.

If aesthetics are your goal? Absolutely not.

If overarching fitness is you goal? There are about a hundred things you could be doing instead of lateral raises.

Out of curiosity, have you ever been to an actual CrossFit gym? There are certainly bad ones and good ones. However, due to my travel schedule for work, I drop in to a lot of random CF (or CF type) gyms since they are usually the easiest place to find multiple squat racks, bumper plates, kettlebells and have yet to see one that does not absolutely preach and force their members to adhere to proper form. Again CF's HQ is a bunch of idiots and I could find the video of Dave Castro doing one of the most pathetic deadlifts ever...but most affiliates seem to do pretty well.
