So the main argument against crossfit is shitty form used by some people in YouTube videos? **** me...
That same argument can be made against every single form of fitness routine, ever. How many times has anyone here seen some stupid teenager "squatting" 315 lbs? I've seen it more than I can remember. Or some dipshit with sunglasses, bunch of tattoos & a tank top on trying to curl 150 lbs?
I can go a bit further too. There is a difference between using atrocious form and cheating. Cheating in the gym is using momentum to get a few more reps in when you can't do any more using strict form. It's a vital part of getting the most out of your time on the gym. Talk to any pro or high level amateur bodybuilder how effective cheating is, you'll likely hear a point of view that's a lot different from what a gym trainer is going to tell you
The one factor I would like to see downplayed by more people is competitiveness. That's when the injuries really happen, when people get in a situation where they're trying to outdo a partner or other person in a group. Using bumper plates, doing weird pullups, or the simple act of using less than perfect form is not going to blow your spine or shoulder into a million pieces. It's trying to "win" and being stupid about it that's really going to **** you up
It also seems that everyone is simply annoyed at the hype that crossfit or Tae Boe or Jane Fondas aerobics tapes are getting. That doesn't mean the activities themselves are worthless. That means you're annoyed by something that you don't agree with
The point is this: it doesn't matter what form exercise takes, everyone needs to be smart about how they go about their fitness goals. You can get hurt lifting a toy poodle from a counter to the floor, that doesn't mean toy poodles are to blame for injuries. The millions of forms that exercises take are simply tools to be used.
