Could have been worse. They could have chopped the heads off and mounted them on stakes around the village to send a message. Peeing on a dead guy who was out to kill you doesn't really evoke much in the way of outrage. I'm sure that kind of stuff was going on way before the world had video capabilities that fit in their pockets.
Agree.
I would have pooped on them. Lay a loaf right on their mouth. After the camera stopped rolling of course.

This was nothing like Abu Ghraib. The soldiers in those pictures were told by civilian contractors of the CIA to pose like that and treat the inmates that way. They had no idea what they were doing was so legally, ethically, and morally wrong.Mixed feelings truthfully.
I get the soldiers at war stuff. Doesn't mean I agree with the mindset. Behavior like that can escalate, particularly when it is tolerated or fostered in a unit. See Abu-Graib or killing of innocent civilians and staging them to look like enemy combatants.
If it was reversed how much outrage would there be? Similar to dragging them through streets or hanging them from an overpass? You bet.
The soilders were wrong. Plain and simple. That shouldn't have happened, and those soldiers totally made themselves and the US bad.
That said
I don't frault them in the least. I have never been in a firefight, or in constant danger of losing my life. I have never had my friend next to me and have him get shot and die. The guys they killed, more then likely, were trying to kill them, and I can't fathom the emotions and the anger they felt. That which what happens on a battlefield is none of my business, nor anyone elses but those that were there.
My question is who the **** brings a camera, video or otherwise, to a battlefield? I know pictures of trophies are nothing new, but really guys? Do you not realize the film will make it onto the internet? You have only yourselves to blame.
There is such outrage in Washington over this but I hope it is all blustering and that these dedicated men will get just a slap on the wrist.
wow. just wow.
What did you do for the AF again?
wow. just wow.
There are quite a few soldiers that do this. My friend that I work with on films has a friend that just got home from Iraq. He has nearly 3 years of footage in a suitcase. With smart phones having the ability to film anything and everything, it's harder to be "off the map."
I was an Air Traffic Control Radar Repairman.
Doesn't matter what I did, what these yahoos did is simply disgusting.
