Icehogs open up 14th season tonight

Rosemont, Ill.-For the second straight year, the Rockford IceHogs offseason was a lot longer than the team would have liked. The club hits the ice for the first time in six months tonight when they open the 2012-13 regular season at the Allstate Arena at 7 p.m. against the Chicago Wolves in an Illinois Lottery Cup match-up.

Tonight’s game can be viewed in Rockford on digital channel 23.2, WIFR’s Weather Now and Comcast Cable channel 436. For a complete list of television listings, click here. The game will also be streamed online through IceHogs.com.

After missing out on the postseason the past two seasons, Rockford’s quest to end that drought begins against their archrivals down I-90. Slow starts have hindered the IceHogs the past two campaigns and the club will look to reverse the trend this weekend against Wolves.

Carter Hutton’s strong showing in goal last season with the IceHogs earned him another contract with the Chicago Blackhawks organization and he’s been pegged as the top goalie in Rockford. Hutton’s play helped boast Rockford to a 21-12-1-4 second half record.

The Allstate Arena has been a little kinder to the IceHogs over the past two seasons as the team is 5-6-0-0 there. It is a below .500 record, but it pales in comparison to the 3-9-2-1 mark the team established in Rosemont during the club’s first three campaigns.

Last year, the rivals split their 12 game season series with Rockford claiming a 1-0 overtime win in the last meeting at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Feb. 26. Jeremy Morin notched the game’s lone goal with just 22-seconds remaining in overtime.

Tonight’s game marks the first of three on the road to start the season for Rockford. The IceHogs and Wolves will meet again on Sunday at the Allstate Arena before the Hogs travel to Carver Arena next Friday to take on the Peoria Rivermen.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Oct. 20 vs. Charlotte Checkers. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs open the home portion of their regular season slate against the Checkers at the BMO Harris Bank Center. I wish the Icehogs were on a TV channel that I wouldn't have to use rabbit ears to get.

Tough loss last night, really outplayed but couldn't finish in the other end.

I know it's only 4 games or whatever, but the offense is pitiful. Hutton deserves better.

I agree, there's to much scoring on this team for them to be producing one goal a game. Hutton has stood on his head the past two games.

Dillon Fournier
potted his fourth goal of the season in Rouyn-Noranda's loss to Drummondville on Friday night. Chicago took the 18-year-old 48th overall in the past draft. He has nine points in 13 games, a good clip for a defenseman.
