It’s really not that difficult. The Bears should hire Bill Belichick and retain Thomas Brown as OC.

Brown can take over HC duties when Bill retires after he breaks the NFL record. Great opportunity for him too. He’ll end up having McVay & Belichick as mentors. Unreal.
BB probably wants McDaniels as OC.

That’s the only thing that gives me hesitation with the Bears hiring Bill as HC.

So much depends on how the Bears offense looks the rest of the season.

I think it will be really interesting to see if Brown can keep it going and show he has the ability to be a good playcaller.

I don't want to force him on any new HC, but if Caleb continues to have success on his watch and essentially using someone else's offense. Would Brown be a guy that the new HC, regardless of background, keep as the OC?

I think that could be very beneficial but I have no idea if Brown would consider it and again, I would not want to force him on any new HC. But I think he should at least get an interview.

I know everyone is in love with Brown right now, but this is exactly the kinda shit that got the Bears in the spot that they're in right now. If you hire a new HC or GM, just start over.

Notice the part where I said, "Don't force it". More than once.

For example, if Zac Taylor becomes available somehow or if the Bears do give strong consideration to a Liam Coen, they would have a shared history of working directly with McVay and likely a shared offensive philosophy. It could make sense and give some continuity to the offense.

Or say you hire Joe Brady and he has all his own guys lined up, then yes 100% you go with his guys and exert 0 pressure to retain any current coach.

So yeah, again, don't force it. If it happens, could be interesting. If it doesn't, then perfectly fine with that too.

What is funny is Taylor had no play calling experience in the NFL before the Bengals job.

After we lose on Thursday the Bears should fire Eberflus and give Brown a live audition for the HC job.

He'd get extra days to shift into that role with the mini-bye after a Thursday game.

Too bad we all know the Bears are too amateur to make a move like that.

Normally would agree but flus has a shot at being the biggest loser hc in bears history and think he deserves a shot at it

And who's gonna be the OC then? I get how everyone loves Brown, but I couldn't think of a better way to set him up for failure than that.

Let him build momentum as a play caller and OC.

He’s a failure as a head coach but as an OC he’s very good and you wouldn’t have to worry about him being poached every year.

Vrabel and McDaniels intrigues me

Either we're considering him to be HC or not.

If he won't get HC consideration, then leave him where he's at.

But if he's gonna be on the shortlist to be the Bears HC why not give him the opportunity to do it now?

Andy Reid never called plays either but what if he never drafted Mahomes right?

I think McDaniels is a PoS so want no part of him even if he is a good OC.

The only way I am ok with going with another defensive minded HC is if they have a clear plan at OC for sustained success. Ie, they have identified an OC that is both good and happy to be an OC for many years to come.

I think back to the Colts and Manning. Tom Moore was Manning's OC for years, even across multiple HC.

It makes a difference and it's the thing I want the most at this point in the next coaching staff for Caleb Williams. Get him in an offense and let him be in that same offense for years to come where he becomes a master of it.

I think Thomas Brown is in the same tier2 as Coen Glenn, and Brady. He is only in this tier for the Bears and not other teams because he has 8 games of solid work (if it goes south he wouldn’t be considered) with Caleb already. Combine that with at least what appears to be natural leadership/alpha qualities I would not hate this hire considering this scenario.

The top tier are Johnson, Vrabel, and Belichick in my opinion. The #1 guy to me is Johnson, he is why the Lions are so good, not the screaming meatball.
