I don’t get why the gov should have a say in what I consume. I’m not a pot smoker and likely won’t use it. I probably use some of the other products that help with pain cause the older I get the more painful the gym life is getting. Just like alcohol legislate operating vehicles on the stuff but why the hell should the gov tell me I can’t smoke weed but I can smoke cigs or drink alcohol makes no sense

As far as sports gambling only reason it wasn’t legal in the first place was protecting Vegas. Supreme Court ended that so it took the political donation aspect out of the equation. We have lottery and casinos I don’t see why sports betting should be treated any different.
Only aspect that would have me nervous is influence of bribing people for outcomes.

I worry about what you said in your last point as well. I would hope that most players and coaches these days are paid well enough to the point where they wouldn't be stupid enough to risk their careers and freedom for some extra cash..... but who knows. They risk their careers all the time for doing other types of stupid shit.

I can picture a left tackle drafted in the 3rd round playing on his rookie contract getting offered a chunk of cash to have a shitty game blocking which could impact the outcome.

Add in prostitution and it all should be legal.

Seriously. Not that I would pay for sex... but I actually think legalized prostitution would make the profession safer. Women are clearly doing it anyway... so why not?

It has also shown to have created a surplus for the states that have legalized it....to the point where it has funded education and have even provided refunds back to the residents of that state. And where is the info you are getting about it being more expensive from a local store vs from "their guy"? Personally, even if it were more expensive, I would pay that premium to not only get it from a legit source but to also legally purchase it to contribute to the state economy. Buying weed from "my guy" means I do not know where they got the weed from or the quality I am buying...I would much rather buy from a regulated shop, than some guy who is probably selling that has had 1 or 2 other middle men before they received it.

From what I’ve heard from who are purchasers in legal states. Yes, prices can be and maybe are pricier at state stores. Then again, they are collecting the tax that helps the state. Others, the older hippie types, don’t want to support “the man” and want to keep it on a personal level. Some just buy it from the same people they have for years.

But most agree that the potency of the product is much more consistent in state stores. This leads to a more predictable experience. Stores usually have a better selection of products, too. Most are very happy that the stores exist. And they are more “dependable” than many run of the mill dealers.

Don’t bet college sports so I don’t care. They allow other gambling so why not college sports? Plus, since I don’t participate in that gambling, I don’t care.

It does. Look at Amsterdam. They are consenting adults.

So tardigrade is Bill Murray? And all this time I thought he was the "nephew" of Dennis Miller and Mandy Patinkin.

Yes to legalizing plants, and all other voluntary interactions, and re-working any and all prison sentences that are affected by it. After that de-regulate and lower tax rates on the cannabis industry to drive the cost down and see what truly marvelous innovations come about

If it's supposed to bring in so much revenue to the state, what's the justification for doubling the gas tax too.

What are your thoughts on it?

Jesus hates you. Your hypocrisy, your lies, you literally work for the devil. Everything you do is the opposite of the Lords teachings, you are Satan incarnate, everything you post here is the work of the devil himself.

Lord Jesus Christ, please strike down this evil blasphemer.

I think the people who can afford to pay the pro player enough to influence a game could also find a way to get a bet down in Vegas.

And if/when it is legal in every other state, that defense to prevent it gets even weaker than it is now.

I can think of no good reason for either to be illegal, yet I also expect the state to be far shittier once they’re legal than it is now.

I come back to my hometown which has always had alcoholism and illegal gambling, and every other business is touting slots with tacky banners hanging outside.

Additionally, much like a state lottery, I don’t have faith it will get the state in better shape financially.

It should, but you have to remember that as all the surrounding states also legalize both there’s less incentive for people to come to Illinois for it so any revenue projections that count on out of state buyers/gamblers are flawed. And it is a certainty that whoever is promoting this will be using out-of-state revenue in their projections.

That doesn’t change my stance that they should be legal.

It just irks me that when people are in favor of something they make up all kinds of numbers to justify it

I have read that people say there are more auto accidents in states where there is legalized pot but I don’t think that’s necessarily an ideal reason for keeping it illegal.

As for people buying from existing dealers, I would question why those people would still be selling. Once it is legal to get quality pot, and remains illegal for people to sell it as they do now, what is my incentive to buy illegally?

Those sellers will go the way of the speak easy
