I don't mind the advanced stats though I really don't think they aren't flawed (like Dmelt said). They draw you a basic picture, but the eyes help color it in. In a 3 game series so far they won't amount to a ton of info. Over the course of an 82 game season they will draw you a better picture.
Though any stat that has Runblad in the positive teens for the season obviously has its fucked up #s.
No different than the "dump and chase vs carry in" debate amongst fancy stats people. Yeah no shit you generate better shots on goal % if you have possession entering the offensive zone compared to dumping it in, but it's not always feasible. With hockey being a game of luck and bounces there won't ever be a single stat that gives a player an objective rating.
Hell two years ago Variable tried painting the picture that fights increased "the rat penalties" with stats and I was able to successfully with #s show that games with a fight the chances of a major penalty (so gooning it up) happening afterwards drastically dropped compared to games with no fights.
