Ha! Never knew, dude. I'd guess you are in your 40s tho for sure.. Hey man, I dig the good stuff. New wave is pretty cool. My GF is all into the high class lounges and crap(i don't know why shes with me haha. Broke, younger than her and shes always dated the millionare lambo guys off gold coast) but I can drag her occasionaly to some new wave bars in the city and get her to dance.. It's just fun music.

I believe CB's is now a fashion store or something? Lmao.. Is there truth to that?

I'm not yet 40 but I'm getting there. CBGB's had gotten pretty lame by the time I lived there, although they had good shows now and then, and an adjoining pizza parlor/gallery, which told you the bloom was off the rose. They were kind of a theme park attraction by that point. The Continental, Max Fish, Lakeside Lounge, Brownie's, and the like were where you went to hear up-and-coming, unsigned acts.

Jelly..

Mine was Jethro Tull lol. I was probably 10 when my Dad took me to see them. I grew up on my Dads music, I never listened much to modern guys because I was so enamored by my dads records and the 18 friggin guitars we got. Soaked it all up. I remember I bought a Eminem CD with my allowance money when I was probably 12. Brand new case and everything, put the cd in my Dads car as we just were leaving Kmart. Song starts up, my Dad looks at me, grabs cd, puts it back in case and throws it out the window. Says "You aren't gonna grow up listening to that shit."

Proceeded to put on SRV.

Thank you, Pops!

I saw morphine just before the guy died. I also saw SRV as a kid just before he died. I also saw Vic Chesnutt opening for Jonathan Richman just before he died. I feel like the angel of death

Maybe you should skip that Kayo Dot show...

Bit late to this one sorry.

1) Boredoms/Zach Hill play Seadrum.
2) Jaga Jazzist at Euston.
3) Graham Coxon at a small venue after he left Blur in Camden (talking to him before the gig was even better, what a lovely chap)
4) Moderat at Bloc.
5) Melt Banana at the Carling Apollo before it shut down. My ears rang for about three days after.

There have been some great ones over the years, but by far the best performances I saw paired together was Queensryche and Suicidal tendencies at rosemont.

Neither one of them are in my top favorite bands, but they killed it that night.

S.T. opened, was touring on lights, camera, revolution, and they were amazingly good.
Queensryche had just released Empire, but were doing operation mindcrime in it's entirety for the first time, and it was insanely good.
I had never seen 2 bands do so well at the same time.

Also, any beastie boys concert was always a hoot.

1. David Byrne. Right after 9/11 at the Riviera in Chicago. Closed with "Life during wartime."
2. Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath at some club in South Beach during Winter Music Conference, got kicked out with them because of vodka spilling everywhere.
3. FischerSpooner at house of blues in Chicago. Great show, Casey Spooner got **** blocked by my wife when he was hitting on me after the show. (no homo)
4. Sonic Youth at the Metro anniversary. I frenched Kim Gordon.
5. Reggie Watts @ tour de fat in west town. First concert with my kids. Amazing performer and hilarious experience that my daughter will never forget.

lol, reggie watts. that guy is a trip.

You ever listen to comedy bang bang?

Great question and very difficult to answer. I've probably seen 10 - 20 concerts/year since my first in 1976 (John Prine & Steve Goodman at Ravinia). How to decide which were the best five is a fun challenge though probably ultimately impossible. Here goes anyway ...

1) Elvis Costello circa 1995, Minneapolis. Still putting on exceptional shows today by all accounts though he never comes anywhere near where I live now. I have thought about paying what it would cost to do stubhub & fly somewhere just to see him again.

2) Neil Young circa 1985. Saw him maybe half a dozen times and all were great shows. This was his "Back to the Country" tour and he had a bunch of Nashville studio guys backing him, with names like Hargus "Pig" Robbins. Those boys could rock hard and the new stuff was peppered with faves like "Down by the River".

3) Richard Thompson 2012. Far and away my favorite electric guitarist but this was just a solo acoustic set. Still, something about that night in a small venue (patio at Albuquerque Art Museum) and he was on like I've never seen before. A pleasant surprise was him covering Brittany Spears' "Whoops I Did It Again" and making it come alive somehow.

4) NRBQ: Saw them a couple times in Minneapolis in the early '90s and their reputation for being brilliant live was deserved.

5) Mighty Joe Young circa 1984: Kind of a b-list Chicago blues guy but this was in the Rathskeller (smallish beer hall) at the student union in Madison and he was just out on the floor in the middle of the crowd playing like guitar Jesus. Won't ever forget that night.

Edit: Special mention goes to the Brian Setzer Orchestra in London in 1996, great cover of the Clash's "New Cadillac"! I should probably be disliked for admitting this but I saw A LOT of Grateful Dead shows when I was young. Funny how none made the list.:rolling:

I did a New Year's Eve show with the Clinton and the P-Funk back in the nineties....that was a total blast. Briefly met Clinton that night, but he was absolutely plastered on champagne. For whatever bizarre reason he reminded me of Santa Claus.
