"So that's fine if we disagree. It's a fun chat. At least we agree Burton Cummings is nowhere on that list of top tier singers. "

If Randy didn't split the Guess Who would have been the supergroup of the 70's. Taking Care Of Business was a Guess Who song that Randy tweeked for BTO. Just because his career didn't get the success of other groups doesn't mean he's not top tier. His top tiers peers acknowledge him. Really disappointed with you. You seem to be an outside the box guy.

The discussion was never about my personal favorite, but you have to acknowledge a good voice regardless of the genre or personal preference (one reason I can't stand rap, none of them can sing a lick).

Cummings might make a top 50 list, no way he makes a top ten list.

You're right Albert, Burton Cummings was no Barry Manilow, he was Infinitely more pussified.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burton_Cummings

In 1975 Cummings left The Guess Who after 10 years to become a solo artist, and the group disbanded. One of his first projects was providing back-up vocals on Eric Carmen's second solo LP, Boats Against the Current, including "She Did It".

He worked with Eric Carmen of "All By Myself" fame, the biggest pussy song of all time. But what about the Carmen song Cummings worked on, "She Did It" maybe that was a rock classic.

....Anyways.

Since we're in the whole rock transition period (psych/prog/hard/heavy), what do you guys think of the whole Gandalf deal?

Band that recorded a pretty damn good album, but some mistake happened with manufacturing where something else was put into the sleeve, created confusion and basically put a bad taste in the bands mouth to bother continuing a career in music. At one point it was a regular album in my daily listening playlist.

Everyone has their opinion. I agree with Robert Plant's.

I get so tainted on some of that older stuff because the recording quality just isn't there..........

But bashing someone's personal preference doesn't make any sense to me.

Who would you put in your top five of female vocalist?

Eric Carmen had some good chops. I knew BC sang on his album. So what? Burton also toured with one of Ringo Starrs All-Star Band. Remember Ringo? One of the Beatles? Got a problem with that? Also on that tour were pussy Todd Rundgren, pussy Nils Lofgren, pussy Timothy B. Schimdt,, pussy Dave Edmunds, and pussy Joe Walsh.
Bunch of pussies BC worked with according to you. I schooled you and you come back with Eric Carmen. Pathetic.

Who would you put in your top five of female vocalist?

Laura Branigan is my #1, which is why I used her as an example before because I've had similar discussions like we had. She just does it for me.

After that, it's a mix and match. I could give a different answer every day. Based on just skill and my preference for sound: I like Annie Lennox, Sonja Kristina(Curved Air), Cyndi Lauper(only her prime, nothing quite like her ever before or after), Alison Moyet, Whitney Houston, Susan Jacks, Mariska Veres(Shocking Blue), Nena, Grace Slick...

But just skill would suck, because you miss Stevie Nicks, who can sing just fine, but brings more to the music than the entire rest of my personal list. So yeah, not sure how I'd rank them or who is 2-5. HBU? Just don't tell me Celine Dion is your #1 ;)

Amy Lee, Ann Wilson, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, Chrissie Hynde

With the exception of a few songs, i couldn't stand Janis Joplin........

A buddy of mine knew the Wilson sisters when they waitresses tables.

I just stumbled across that, thought it was pretty cool. The reason for the tears I believe, is do to the fact that is Jon Bonham's son playing the drums.

LOL. The first thing Cummings did after Guess Who was work with Eric Carmen. Those guys have so much in common, both have absolutely nothing to do with Rock & Roll, both are total lightweights that no one take seriously. Don't hurt yourself twisting around trying to prove Burton Cummings is a rocker because one time he played with guys that had credibility, we covered that with Randy Bachman. Cummings is a D list "Soft Rock" pussy that plays his special brand of 'Mom Rock' at casinos these days.

Elevator music at best.

Keep telling me what a hard core rocker this pussy is. I'll keep posting his "Rock & Roll".

Me too, I like them a lot.

But the question is, where do you rank Burton Cummings among the singers of that era?

Same, I have no issues with the guess who, they have some great songs (no sugar tonight one of my fav guess who songs). I tend to lump them in with bands like CCR.

So you got a problem with a 70 year old man playing songs his fans grew up on? I posted plenty of evidence that he rocked in his youth, when the band was relevant. Burton rocked with the best of them. You're obsession with this is asinine. .

Robert Plant. What a pussy. He was briefly in a band with Jimmy Page. Look at him now singing elevator music.

Randy Bachman was walking around a bad neighborhood in Oakland one day. Him being Canadian he was unaware of ghettos. He noticed some rough character following. As the character got closer a woman in a car pulled up and said to the tough guy. " If you don't get in the car right now the'll be no sugar tonight. The guy got in the car and Randy wrote No Sugar Tonight out of that experience.
