Like TC stated, they can't trade some prospects or they cut off the pipeline.

Jake Mcgee. Rockies

Played for Maddon
Having down year, was on DL knee
Hard throwing Lefty 95 +

Could cost cheap in players

McGee isn't all that amazing vs lefties. Better than what they have now for sure but if you're making a deal at least in my eyes you go after someone who shuts down lefties. He's more above average than a lock down guy vs lefties though with that being said, if the cost was right I agree you could see that move.

He could be a last option if they don't get who they want
Plus
He won't cost them high prospects

Bunch of teams looking for bullpen help now
So might end up grabbing guys from LF so to speak

Dan Plesac was on with Waddle and Sylvie this afternoon touting McGee for the Cubs.

On the other side of the coin he said he'd trade Schwarber for Miller right now.:cringe:

I feel like Miller is incredibly over hyped. He's a very good reliever but he's not even the best in the league. Over the past 3 years Dellin Betances, Aroldis Chapman, and Kenley Jansen have all put up more fWAR and there's probably 10-15 relievers who are close enough statistically to call them basically the same. For example, Rondon has 4.2 fWAR to Miller's 5.8 but if you look at innings pitched and ERA/FIP they are 164.2 and 163.1 respectively and 1.97/2.43 and 1.87/1.86. So, they've more or less been quite close.

I just don't get the logic of giving up top 50 prospects for a reliever. Ken Giles is a pretty good example of this as well as Kimbrel before him. Now Giles is performing way worse than Kimbrel did in San Diego but San Diego paid for essentially Rivera and got a 2.5 ERA closer. Additionally, there's very few times I can remember where a team went out and made a trade for an elite reliever and that trade made any real impact. Eckersley comes to mind but that wasn't even the year of the trade. It was the year after where he had a great year.

Miller would be a strong set up but you don't pay out a top end bat for it. You can argue paying Soler for Miller. Bat with control that is major league tested. May even get better with the DH used at times to keep his legs fresher over the season.

Add decent arm in the system and that deal should go through. But thinking a bat of Schwarber's talent is equal to a set up man is stupid. We are talking a 40 HR bat for a set up with minamal control. Pretty stupid

Ultimately I don't think the Yankees will trade Miller if they are really down to the Cubs and Rangers as trading partners. I don't know does Soler and Vogelbach get it done? The Yankees are said to like Vogelbach but not Soler. As far as Texas what are they after there? Gallo, Mazara maybe Tate to come up and start working his way into that bullpen rotation next year? Would the Rangers, with Houston on their heels, get desperate enough to do something like that. Would the Cubs with Pittsburgh and St. Louis getting close? I don't know, but if I'm the Yankees I realize that I don't need salary relief and Miller will be just as valuable in the winter as he is right now and more teams could be involved. Again if I'm them I ask for all the things and if I can get most of the things I'll move him, if not I sit tight.

Yanks told Miller that they will trade him if the offer is strong.

I want Chapman. Lefty that throws 102mph and won't cost as much. I'm scared to death of giving up some of our young studs. Miller will cost way too much and 3-4 years from now we'll be kicking ourselves when Torres and Eloy are dominating.

I would assume the Cubs care considering they just brought up a guy from AAA to make the locker room laugh more.

And sent him right back down. ..

My point is, ive heard about so many guys who are supposed to be locker room cancers and yea I know most are but it seems most after they get traded..

Their usually welcomed and perform well with new team...

didnt pay attention to what his teammates fron reds had to say...
Haven't heard anything negative from yankees players or media about him. .
Rizzo already said hed welcome him

But again if a guy edgy in the locker room but he does his job for 2 months and playoffs and especially if they win.. I think theyll deal with it

Developing a team culture is important to the Cubs both short term and long term. That is why Maddon brings in rookies that are good people and former players he knows and trusts. Teams like the Yankees will bring in anybody whether there is a cultural fit or not.

Yanks are a vet team. Cubs are a younger team. That said I feel it means nothing. The Cubs have a strong Latino core and I'm not seeing this huge issue going on if they went there
