Baez has been one of the best Cubs hitters for over a month. They are going to have to find him regular playing time.

And he's developing into an elite defensive player. I would encourage every one to watch his foot work. Plus he's got tremendous instincts, a great glove and a solid arm.

Our best defensive lineups have Russell and Baez manning the infield. Bryant plays acceptable defense at 3B but he's no Javy.

Talk of Josh Reddick coming to the Cubs. If it wan't Beane I wonder what he would cost the Cubs to get him.

Why has his OBP been so much higher this season than any season before? His OBP is .380 and he's never been over .330 before. Plus isn't he a RF? Or is he a capable LF, as well?

Obviously Thed Hoystein is very familiar with Reddick.

Baez will either slowly take over 2B or end up traded for that under 30 starter they want

I think Baez is starting to become untouchable. The Cubs laughed at the Padres when they asked for him for Pomeranz. It would have to be someone big for him to be included.

I dont disagree..

Why I think once everyone returns and the dust settles with trades, Baez probably starts to take over 2B a little more and Zobrist becomes the utility guy.

I'm not sure about that. I think Zobrist is likely, but not absolutely, your starter at 2B when you reach the playoffs. Between now and then he'll probably get some rest.

Every RF is capable of Playing LF. And Every CF is capable of playing either Corner traditionally anyways.

Not exactly sure, but I would say his OBP has gone up so much because the A's lineup is awful. Why pitch to Josh?

The Cubs overvalue their MI's. They could be correct this time around.

They have about a bajillion of them. So, Im not sure they are over valuing. Seems teams covet them.

So far that has not been shown to be true, the covet part. I provided a list the other day on here of guys that have been overvalued.

Come playoffs yes he probably is the starter
But
The last 2 months, I think he sits more then he plays if maddon wants to get Baez more ABs.

Wheather or not they do get Reddick or another LH bat or just stick with Soler and Cogs in LF and even Contreras, it limits the need of playing Bryant in LF and using Baez at 3B.

So with that in mind, the only realistic place to play Baez most everyday will be 2B.

During the season Maddon can just rotate these guys around, what going to be interesting is to see who he goes with come playoff time in LF if they dont get Reddick or Beltran and how he uses Baez.

What? They have turned down numerous teams for Baez. they have told teams Russell is untouchable. They have Happ and Torres who are both top 100 prospects. Teams start their convo's with Cubs with their MI's. All 4 are under the age of 23.

Have you seen the shitstorm of available SS's at this year's deadline? I think that's why you value the fact that you have arguably 2 of the top 10 SS in baseball on your team together; and both are producing -- along with Torres/Happ in the pipeline that both have incredible ceilings.

In no particular order: Tulo, Correa, Bogaerts, Lindor, Crawford, Diaz (offensively), Simmons (defensively), Russell, Baez?

People debated Diaz as an All-Star over Russell. But do you really want him over Baez OR Russell? I'm not so sure. I like my SS to not be a dumbass in the field, usually.

Look at the 25 SS's available at this year's deadline and you'll understand why the Cubs covet their middle infielders (IMPACT middle infielders). Fucking Zack Cozart is the cream of the SS crop available this year.

Want and covet are two different things. Of the guys that have actually moved what has been the return?

Are you talking Castro? Cause that's the only MI that has been traded. Alcantara was never considered a top get.

I don't think Cubs are done adding Reliever, specifically LH
Miller might be outpriced, but Chapman could still be in play

Like I said before, they need to look ahead to possible playoff opponents ... Giants and Nationals big bat are LH

They might still be interested in Chapman but most of the baseball writers seem to think like I do that he isn't their kind of guy. I guess we'll all see.

While I do think part of getting Montgomery was to ease the need, I'd be rather surprised if they grabbed another lefty unless he came really cheap. You don't typically run 3 LHP in a bullpen. At this point I think they are more looking for value than specific pieces. Maybe you could argue they want another bench bat but I think they are more focused on pieces for 2017+ than specifically this year because they honestly are a very well rounded team.

I could see Schwarber in LF, Heyward in CF and Bryant in RF next year with Baez starting at 3B. That puts Almora and Szczur as your OF depth. They would need to add a MI at that point to go along with LaStella.

Just getting Schwarber back would off set the loss of Fowler.

They could use a LH thumper on the bench. Outside of Rizzo there is no one that really puts fear into you from the left side.
