10:29am: Yahoo’s Jeff Passan reports (via Twitter) that Lucroy asked the Indians to void his 2017 club option in order to hit the open market at the end of the season in order to approve the deal (Twitter link). Understandably, Cleveland was in no way willing to meet that request, as the option is a significant factor in Lucroy’s value to the club.

We are out on Reddick. Olney thinks we are starting Matusz tonight to flip him in the thin pitching market.

@NYPost_Mets: Was just told the Mets believe they are out on both Bruce and Lacroy.

I'll take one or both

The yanks farm system is going to be crazy good. They turned 2 relievers into Torres, McKinney, Crawford, and Warren plus Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffield, Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen. Feel like the cubs got a bit played in this one. Apparently they wanted Miller more than Chapman and the return cleveland gave up was basically the same. Frazier and Torres are similar prospects. Sheffield is a bottom top 100 guy. Heller is cleveland's #30 prospect and Feyereisen is much.

After this NY has the #24, #26, #27, #32, #39, #64, and #99 prospects. If there is one silver lining it's that they don't yet possess top 10 types but damn that's a deep farm system and they will be able to go after IFA's again next year I believe.

The Yankees are in love with Frazier. They view him as a potential Trout. Ridiculous view, but there scouts love him more than any Cubs prospect.

The Cubs really need to tread lightly here. Sure, sounds great to trade for all these rentals....but what happens if they don't win the World Series, hell what happens if they don't even get that far? Now, you got all these rentals heading for greener pastures and the Cubs are right back to square one with a somewhat depleted asset supply. The sellers are really sticking it to the buyers this year, even more so than usual and the Cubs, no matter who they trade for...are not a lock to do anything. I've watched this franchise go "all in" a boat load of times in my life...hasn't worked yet.

Have to think Epstein got a move or two brewing..
He made the bold move to get Chapman as a sign that he looking to win it all this year..

So, you wouldn't think that he would stand pat with an offense that been struggling for the most part and has a couple starters not performing up to par..

Looking ahead to playoff starters..

C. Montero Ross Contreras
1B. Rizzo
2B. Zobrist Baez
SS. Russell
3B. Bryant Baez
LF. Soler Cogs Bryant
CF. Fowler
RF. Heyward

Montero Ross and lately Contreras gives them very little offensively..

Not exactly thrilled with the idea of counting on Soler and Cogs to provide offense from LF spot..

Unless they trade or keep Soler on bench, and either send Contreras back down or Catch him..
there not going to be much PT for Baez

Epstein got some decisions and cleaning up to make by tomorrow..

So, I'm not saying it's anything but Soler isn't playing today because of a "scheduled day off."

#Tigers increasingly involved in starting pitching market, sources say; they are looking mostly at No. 3 and 4 type starters. @MLB
10:29 PM - 30 Jul 2016

Are there even any #3/4 types out there other than the Rays starters? Still feel like if they would make Daniel Norris available the cubs and them would match up.

I don't really think the cubs are going to be in on Reddick. The problem is as the roster stands, their OF is already super crowded. Heyward despite his offensive struggles isn't going anywhere because he's the best defensive RF in baseball.

You misspelled Adam Eaton.

Eaton is having a better results year because of the massive number of assists he has for an OF but I have to assume that the flukyness of it means regression later where as Heyward has been a defensive stalwart every year in the league. There is no way I'd play Eaton over Heyward in the bottom of the 9th of a game; Heyward is simply more skilled than Eaton at playing defense.

So, if the cubs were thinking of trading for a starter.... wouldn't be bad to have a fresh arm in a few days.

No starters pitched tonight..Lackey just warmed up
The rotation stays the same

What they need is Hendricks to go at least 7 tomorrow to save the pen and the offense to score a bunch..

Without looking, I think Montgomery Strop and Chapman were the only ones who just went one inning

Nathan threw 10 pitches, Montgomery threw 16, Chapman threw 10. Everyone else threw 20 or more. They probably DFA Matusz tomorrow and call up someone other than Grimm as hey can't recall him for 10 days. My comment was mostly in jest but adding another starter would allow either that guy or say Hammel to potentially throw multiple innings in relief over the next couple of days which would really help out the pen. You could essentially piggy back starters the way they do in the minors for a game in order to keep the normal relievers from having to throw.

Forget adding a starter - we desperately need an OF who can hit a sacrifice fly.

Let's link up with NY again and get Beltran here.
