Blackhawks have been scouting Carolina pretty good. Told that JML and Hainsey make sense - and a quick look at the roster would point in that direction. Carolina would likely have to take Bickell back in any deal though considering the fact that Carolina can not retain salary on any deal (at the 3 player max) for this year and the Blackhawks are tight in space.

The Stars just acquired Kris Russell and the people who seem to be happiest are the other Hawks fans I follow on Twitter.

Also the Hawks made a HUGE TRADE with Carolina! (Not really)

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have acquired goaltender Drew MacIntyre from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Dennis Robertson. MacIntyre will report to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

MacIntyre, 32, has posted an 11-13-1 record, 3.09 goals-against average and .890 save percentage in 28 games with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers this season. The Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, native has collected a 223-156-6 mark and 16 shutouts in 432 career AHL games across 12 seasons with Grand Rapids (2004-06), Manitoba (2006-08), Milwaukee (2008-09), Chicago (2009-11), Hamilton (2010-11), Rochester (2011-12), Toronto (2012-14) and Charlotte (2014-16). MacIntyre has also registered a 42-30 record in 76 career Calder Cup Playoffs games. MacIntyre was selected by Detroit in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2001 NHL Draft.

Robertson, 24, has posted five points (2G, 3A) in 37 games with the Rockford IceHogs this season. The Fort St. John, British Columbia, native has collected 22 points (5G, 17A) in 95 career AHL games across three seasons with Charlotte (2013-15) and Rockford (2015-16). Originally drafted by Toronto in the sixth round (173rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Robertson was acquired by the Blackhawks with defenseman Jake Massie and a fifth-round selection in the 2017 NHL Draft from Carolina in exchange for forwards Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom and a third-round selection in the 2017 NHL Draft on Sept. 11, 2015.

McIntire sucks, hes 32, has had a handful of NHL starts and IMO has been underwhelming in the AHL. Must have been for depth on the Hogs

Those same fans would likely talk about his speed and how great he is at blocking shots if the Blackhawks got him. He will improve the Stars defense, which they badly needed - a solid #4/5 guy for them.

Nah, they wouldn't. These same people were constantly saying that Russell is a bad player. And they're right. He sucks. Just shows the lack of Dallas' D depth if he's going to be a "solid 4/5 guy" for them.

So what's the bigger move: Hawks getting Ladd or Rangers getting Staal? Those seem like the biggest moves of the last week or two.

Russell would be a solid #4/5 type guy for the Blackhaws too considering he is better than Roz, Gus, and TVR. He has his negatives but he certainly has his positives as well.

Clearly the biggest move was the Hawks getting Drew MacIntyre (who?).

Blackhawks supposedly made a big push for Hamhuis and JML but couldn't make it work.

Saw one Hawks reporter on Twitter suggest that Michael Leighton hasn't been playing all that great this year, and acquiring MacIntyre is meant to push him on the Ice Hogs.

Pirri was worth a 6th. JML a player/prospect, a 3rd and a 5th?

Heard a Hamhuis interview after the deadline where he spoke about how both the Blackhawks and Stars were close to acquiring him. Since Hamhuis has a NTC, the Canucks informed him of teams when a deal was somewhat close to make sure they could continue to pursue the deal. Apparently Hamhuis wanted to stay in the West and not go out East.
